Hi all.

My passenger side window is stuck, frozen solid in place. Im guessin the linkage is binding.

The question I have is this, I need to know if theres anything special I have to do to get the door panel off.

Im assuming the window crank has to come off and it's probably just pressed onto a splined shaft, is that correct? Just pry it off?

Also the door lock knob. Is it just a knob pushed onto a round shaft with a flat on it that just pulls off?

I just dont want to damage or break anything.

Thanks for any info,
Joe

The lock knob and the window crank are both held on by the same type of clip. Its a u shaped clip that slides off with a special tool. You can find the tool at almost any auto parts store. The best way I can describe the clip is that it looks like a fancy U and the ends curl out a little.

Good thing I asked then because I was going to go out and pry them off after work today!

Funny thing is that I had a Yellow 96 LT4 coupe that got smashed so when I bought my next one I was thinkin... O.k. Im gonna get an older one this time around so it's easier to work on and I wont need any special tools, lol.

Funny how those things work out.

Thanks, I had no idea.

J.

i used to dental pick to get the clips out on mine. if you bend the tip a little, you can work it around the clip and pull it out. i think they are about 39 cents at the local army navy store. my problem is i need the wife out there to help me put the clip back on as the new door panel sets out a little farther that the old one. i can push it far enough in to where the clip can go on, but then i have to let go to put the clip on. the wife is apprehensive to help cause sometimes i say dang and darn when i am mechanicing and she gets upset.....

Hey,your putting the clip on the hard way.Put the clip on the knob or handle before attaching it to the door.Youll find that they just snap on this way.Dont feel bad though,I used to do it that way until someone showed me.

Make sure you put the C-clips back in the same direction on both doors or else you'll go crazy trying to figure it out next time.

thanks for the tip paintdaddy.

man, i get more good info and tips off of this site than you can shake a stick at. the whole process of taking the window out, replacing the door handle, replacing the window regulator and putting the new door panel on has been made much simpler due to the info obtained from other peoples experience. thanks to everyone.....
