I have a 69 that the wipers did not work on. I got them working now the problem is the wiper door closes too quickly. It cloeses on the wiper arms. Also the wipers will not return to the park position. Then when I start the car they go on down to the park position. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

I can't tell you why they aren't "parking" but I can tell you why the door is closing too quickly. On the passengers side, under the wiper door...close to the windshield is a vacuum relay. When the wipers come down, they hit the "button" on that relay, closing the door. Sounds like they're hitting the button too quickly...before the wipers are all the way down.

I'm not sure how to adjust the "park" feature in the motor. Maybe you might need to adjust the wiper linkage. Chuck

Thanks Chuck
I will work on this, do you think the relay is bad? Maybe the wiper arms need to be repositioned on the knurled nut?

Chuck is correct. There is a Vacuum switch on the pass. side. When the pass. side wiper arm goes down it should depress the swtich.

Depressing the switch should release the vacuum alowing the door to close. On my car the door would stay open because the switch was leaking. Perhaps yours is hooked up backwards?

It should have 3 ports on it. In, Out, and "vent" (which goes nowhere).

If you want I can look and see which port is which...

Hey Tom ....It could be the parking pawl switch inside the motor. It's not to hard to replace but you have to remove the wiper motor from the vehicle. You can get the part from a Delco Dealer....Bob Yates

Thanks for all the help! I had a friend come over Sat. and we got it. The line on the relay were hooked up wrong , also a slight vacuum leak. Plus the wires on the switch under the dash were not hooked up correctly. We started from the very beginning and went all the way through it and now they are working perfect. Thanks again for all the help!
