Hi guys! I posted this on another forum, but since I did not get an answer I thought i would try here as well.

I am trying to find out the vin sticker information for a 73 Convertible. Specificaly the GVWR and the GAWR (front & rear). Some bone head tore mine off (and took it) at the last cruise we had.

Man I hate it when people do not respect another persons property.

Thanks,

Matt

I may have some #'s for you tonight. But it would be a Conv L82 Automatic rather than a 4-speed. But the 4-speed would be 54 pounds lighter then the auto.

Here are the key numbers on mine:
GVWR 4119 GAWR FRT 1962 REAR 2167

On the top, after the Mfg by is the build date, in my case 09/72

At the bottom, centered is the VIN with "PASSANGER CAR" centered below it.

That is for a 73 Conv, L82, auto, with PS, PB, PW, Am/FM Stereo. You can adjust weights for yours by using the numbers at: http://www.corvetteforum.net/c3/vette73/S_WEIGHT.htm

Tom - Thanks for the reply, but I am confused. Using the chart on your site, I just can't see how your car or Rosco's car (other forum) can weigh in at 41XX Curb. The highest I can get on my car is 3595... (I have L-82, AC, PS, and AM FM Stereo) I guess I am missing something... Where are the other 500 lbs coming from?

Thanks,

Matt

We're talking two different weights here - vehicle weight as shipped (around 3300# or so), and the GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating) and GAWR (Gross Axle Weight Rating); the latter two numbers are the maximum weights the car (and each axle) is designed to carry in certifying the tire constructions - this info is required by Federal Law on the Certification Label.

Curb weight is what the car actually weighs, the numbers on the label are the maximum weights the car is certified to carry with the OE tires and suspension components.

Thanks JohnZ. So it looks as if I can add 548 lbs of passangers/luggage/cargo. Deffently not a pickup :D

JohnZ- Thanks, but I am still lost.

How do they figure what the Gross is? This seams to be the missing set of numbers to do calculations from. Then we can start with a number and work backwards rather than adding up - correct?

Do you take away axle weight evenly from front to rear as well?

Thanks,
Matt

Dunno - it was done automatically by an Engineering-developed algorithm in the scheduling computer based on the specs of each individual car; St. Louis just took the sticker from the printer and stuck it on the door.

Hi Matt
I can't help you with the numbers ( I'm sure you already have an answer) but that is a sweet 73.
