79 L82 Engine code

Hello all, looked a decent car today.....the code on the block near the water pump read V0605ZBA......can I be confident that that is the original engine? It is a 4 speed.....Any and all thoughts are appreciated...Thanks, Rayhnoes

ZBA is the block code for a 49-state 350 in an 82.

As for whether or not your engine is the original engine...you will need more information than just the block code to tell.

Thanks, can this be determined by the 9 digit code underneath that block code?

ZBA shows in my sources as the correct code for a '79 L82 w/four speed, so possibly this is the original motor for the car. Does the VIN derivative match?

Raybee: there are two stamps on the engine pad; the engine ID code which you apparently found and the VIN derivitive.

The VIN derivitive should match your VIN.
