79 Speedometer

I have been looking for a replacement speedometer for my 79. It has the 85 mph and I wanted to change to a 140 or 160. They dont seem to be available from the usual places. Is it due to the odometer? Anybody have a source?

None of the corvette vendors have them????
You could try contemporary corvette...a corvette 'recycler' in pa.....he might have some out of wrecked corvettes ....

I had my original speedometer reworked into a 140 MPH by Corvette Instrument Service. For about $85 they rebuilt the gauge and changed the calibration. The original faceplate was sandblasted and repainted. They silk-screened the face using the artwork for a 1978 speedo which is 140 MPH. For the KPH scale they used the orange paint that is correct for an 82 rather than the 78 blue. Therefore the KPH scale matches the trip gauge. If you didn't know better you would think it was original.

I changed my 81's speedo to one from a 78 I bought on ebay. It has the blue screen printing instead of the orange, but It was cheap and it goes to 140! I also swapped the odometers so I have the original mileage.

I'd rather be fast than original.

Try to find one out of a 79 L82 car. They came with a 140MPH speedo.

I did a bit of a search and Finally found the thread that discusses where a bunch of us with 81's got our 140 mph speedometers

I bought another one, had my mileage put on the new one, kept the original boxed it up and the next owner will have it if they want it..
