Reassembling the vette I picked up last year. The PO purchased a new shift cable but I cant figure out how it attaches to the trans bracket. Can someone tell me if there is a bracket missing or its the wrong bracket or provide a pic on how this is supposed to attach. The pics show the cable end and the square bracket on the tranny.

It has been a while since I have been crawling in that area of the car. There is a bracket missing and possibly a piece of linkage.

I've spoken w/ two different tranny shops and they both have differing ideas about what bracket is missing. One guy says there is a bracket that has 2 square holes in it that accommodate the linkage rods for the ignition lock. The other says it's just a flat tab with a pin that the shift cable attaches to.
can someone tell me for sure what exactly was on the 81?
Thx

I should be crawling around under the car tomorrow. I have a 700R4 transmission but, the connections should be the same. I will let you know what I find out.

First I would recommend getting yourself an assembly manual. It shows all of the little details like this.
I've just Checked in my assembly manual. The bracket you have there already just has a few small pins missing, your cable should attach straight to it if you find them.

I looked at mine today and the bracket is the same, but I have an added piece of linkage. The diagram above has what you need to figure out what you are missing.
