I have a new 1981 Corvette. It has a tilt steering colum. The problem is they have put an aftermarket Grant steering wheel on the car. Here is my question, do 1981 Corvettes come with only tilt steering? If I have a tilt wheel do I also have tele? Please help I can not move forward until I find these answers. Thank you, Gene

Gene, I am not aware of any 81 models WITHOUT a telescoping column, but I am not an expert on this. I read the selling ads on eBay EVERY day to see whats out there, have not seen an 81 yet without the tele.
Just underneath the horn button is a small tab. If you are looking at the horn while in the drivers seat, you should see this tab at about the 7 o'clock position. Slide the tab upward to the 10 o'clock position and you should be able to pull, or push the wheel down/up. Once in the desired position, push the tab back down to lock it in the desired position.I hope you can understand this description as I know it's not that clear.
Again, I am not an expert, but I do think all 81's came with this option. Perhaps someone with more knowledge can chime in here,
Merry CHRISTmas everyone. Mike J.

Gene,

I believe that Mike is correct, as far as I know all 81's came with tilt and telescope. However, I have read that the tele will not work with an aftermarket wheel due to the fact that the lock/release button is a part of the stock wheel.

Now there you go Gene- thats probably why you haven't found your tele. button- cause it probably aint there if you've got an aftermarket wheel.
Dale's de man !!!
Now- where did they put that original wheel?????

Seems someone put ours on the Right Hand Side!

Look closely at the pic I took after her bath.

Cheers

I'm afraid to ask how that was done but it seems expensive for sure..
Cool looking ride (looks exactly like mine, except for the wheel location that is.) :beer
