82 Fuse box picture please help

Hey everyone, man i'm getting sick and tired of this cold in Korea. But anyway, awhile back i made a post about the horn switch in my C3 starting to fail. Well since i'm in Korea, and my car is in the states its kinda hard for me to talk my son through which fuse to remove.

I thought my wife was still taking the car around the block, but she didn't tell me that she has refused to do it until the horn stops blowing every time the steering wheel is touched. And as you all know if you let a C3 sit for too long they start to fall apart.

It would be awesome if someone here can snap a pic and highlight the correct fuse so my son can remove it. He's a smart kid and can figure it out if he has a visual reference. Thanks in advance for any help ya'll can offer.

I don't have an image of the fuse block in an 82 but he may find that, once he gets up underneath the dash and looks, there may be a fuse labeled "horn".

Easier than that, have him open the hood and disconnect the horns.

Yeah, that's been done. And do i really want my 15yr old who doesn't know his own strength yanking wires out in an engine compartment that has had a full restore done on it. I have the AIM, the fuse is not show on the picture, and i have the under the hood relay pick as well. this is a last resort, i do not want him trying to read a technical diagram and yanking wires.

** the problem is they cannot find the fuse, i don't know if the lettering is worn or faded, or if its just operator head space and timing. But i have calculated the obvious, just wish my wife had a iPod touch 4th gen then i can video skype them and fix it my self

There's no way I can get my digital SLR up under the dash far enough and have enough light to shoot the fuse block, so...to the factory service manual. It had a labeled-drawing of the fuse block and wiring diagrams.

There is no separate fuse for horns on an 82. The fuse for the hazard warning lights, the stop lights also fuses the horn, so you can't pull that if your Wife is going to drive the car.

You're going to have to teach your 15 year old to disconnect the horns. Each has a 2-mm. dark green wire with a single, push-on connector. They are ahead of the core support. You said earlier he's a "smart kid". My experience with smart kids is they can unplug horns.

yup you just verified everything i needed to know. What she was explaining to me is exactly what i thought, they are all connected. She was going to pull that relay out, i told her to stop and that i would verify. Thanks Hib, looks like i will have to walk them through the under the hood work. If he jacks up the connectors, i'll just have to add that to the To Do list when i get back.

PS: the under the hood restore was all the major parts and not the 31 yr old wiring harness, there are some things on that bugger i'm really if'y about, but i hoped to fix all the bubba damage correctly instead of replacing it. We'll get it sorted. Looks like i'll have to upgrade her to a 4th gen iTouch so i can use that front facing camera to supervise the work. Just wish i had it over here, i dont think the locals have seen a C3. Granted there is all the other high end cars running around in Seoul. Saw a Lotus and a Black Lambo a few months back.

Not positive, but my guess is the 1981 is the same or very close to the 1982... esp. the general fuse types like horn, lights ect..

follow up, thanks for all the help. But neither my wife or son could find the correct relay to pull, and the main fuse is wired into other things that would make it unsafe to drive on a military post. But with help from a neighbor they disconnected the horns, which still left the relay active. It killed the battery within a few days. But i'm home now, and the issue was the plastic retainer inside the horn contact switch had fallen apart. I purchased a replacement kit, but turns out all i really needed was the contact. But the replacement switch is very sensitive, and just a good bump will make the horn beep. Need to do a little adjustment. Now that i know, here is a tip if you run into the same issue.

The Horn cap pops right off with very little southern justice, just grip it and give a good pull stright back. This will expose the horn contact switch, just take that off and replace it. Or in my case just leave it off until someone who knows what they are doing can look at it. Contact switch is basicly two pieces of metal with a non conductive buffer in the middle. Its all held together with plastic rivets, those pop off over age and cause the contact issue. Wish i would have known, coulda saved a good battery. Now to install that new radiator and replace rear bushings.
