84 Auto Shift

How do you remove auto shifter knob? I want to replace my shift boot. And knob must come off. Please Help! Thank You.:confused

Mine you just pull off straight up and there is two little metal pieces that slid over another metal piece, I hope this makes sense.

The button on top pulls straight up, need to get something under edge to get it off. The shifter knob itself has a c clip towards the bottom has to come off next. After c clip is off i had to take a small piece of wood and tap with a hammer to get knob off. I suspect it was first time the knob was off and it just got stuck to shift lever.
