84 vette built in 83, is it a 30th anniversery edition?

Get a copy of Dave McLlelan's book Corvette From the Inside. This book is excellent reading and there are details as to why there were no production 1983 Corvettes.

The car that is at the NCM does have a VIN that indicates it is a 1983 model, but none of the 40-some Vettes built with a year code of "D" (1983) were ever intended for sale. They were all pre-production prototypes. Some were destroyed in testing and all but the last car were crushed after testing was complete.

There is only 1 Corvette that is a 1983 production year car, and that is in the museum.

However, I agree that a 1984 model Corvette that was assembled in 1983 is the closest you'll ever get to a 30th anniversary edition.

Officially, the first ford mustang is the 1965. However, the early 1965 model year was produced in 1964. A few things changed when the calendar actually turned to 1965 (very few things). So the people with the early cars call them 1964 1/2 mustangs.

I won't argue with you if you want to call your car a 30th anniversary edition as long as you don't try to sell it as a rare car 1 of 1 car. Some people will say that if it doesn't have a V8, then it isn't a Corvette. I bet there are some '54 owners that would disagree.

Just don't try to order parts for a 1983 Corvette. Some part stores will think it is a prank call and hang up.

It kinda is to me!

Of course the only one exists...what color? white! Remember the 30th Aniversary symbol is the Pearl. So it it pearl white? :-)
Whats even MORE fascinating to me is that several 84's were painted in 86 colors ...sold to the public and STILL LOST 25 years later!

That's the corvette I saw the last time I was at the museum. Oddly enough, I have a Chiltons repair manual titled "Corvette repair 1963 to 1983" Funny
I've seen that book. If I remember right, they were of the opinion that EFI was some mythical beat that shouldn't be angered by mer mortals. :chuckle

Yeah, overall if you can use this manual to fix something, it's probably not broke. The manual is a very limited "how to" book that's show almost nothing and doesn't even cover a lot of subject. I just kept it becaues it was funny to have a big bold title "Corvette 1968 to 1983";LOL

There is one known 1983 VIN Corvette left, and it is on display at the National Corvette Museum.

Here's a picture of it ...

Here's the story board on display with the car. The last line reads that it is the only one left (IIRC)...

None were sold to the public, and the rush to complete the design precluded any 30th Anniversary edition. All C4's built and sold to the public in 1983 were ID'ed from the factory as 1984 model year. As others have said, there were sufficient development problems to solve that by the time they had them completed, there was very little reason to sell them as 1983 models (and they had already made whatever changes needed to be made to satisfy Federal standards for 1984 model year).
