Please help! I have a deposit on a 87 ttc conv. 39k miles excellent condition no mechanical problems with no visual structural damage anywhere. The problem is that it has a salvaged title you could never tell it was in an accident. I can get the car for 15,900.00 what do you think? Are there any drawbacks for 1987 TTC conv.? What problems should I look for? Any help greatly appreciated!!

First, Welcome to the :CAC :)

Second - Take the Vin # and call Joanne Mercer at Callaway Cars @ 860 434 9002

Main thing on 87's was the oil pump needs to be updated to last.
Joanne will have records if Callaway did this or sent the parts for another shop as she should have complete history on the machine.

Really, it is a whole lot like other Vettes year to year w/ the exception of the drivetrain and you want to make sure it does not overboost - I think 87's run about 50hg's on the dash guage (more than 56 is getting risky unless it has the rest of the "gear" to handle this pressure)

Is this the car that was located in Washington State? Red w/ tan top???

Once again, welcome & good luck w/ the purchase! Chris

Drawbacks--just the plastic surgery bill you'll have for wiping the smile off your face. :) Seriously...check the oil pump as 89x2 said. It's an easy check. Look at the belt tensioner and see if there is a funny looking pump on it with oil lines attached to it. If it's not there it's still on the power steering unit (somehow) and should be changed. If it is in Wa state I can give you the name of the shop that did mine. Also on the '87 you may have some rust problems from water entering the hood scoops. I had a wastegate go out from rust so it can be an issue. I say get it and don't worry about the title.

A few months ago, I posted this from an Ad... "Found an interesting TT for sale at a GREAT price if it checks out w/ it's condition, etc. 1987 CHEVROLET CORVETTE, tw turbo Convert, red w/tan lthr int, 39k, over 500hp top sp according to super cars 197mph, '93 body upgrade, $17,900/OBO"

Has an Aerobody rr bumper and 91 TT scoops on the hood.
Rest of the car looked to be 91+ pieces

-Keep us posted, at the price you mentioned the car may be worth a shot :)
(although I have not seen this car personally - this is all opinion :) )

Do you know where in Wa state the car is?
