Recently purchased 88 convertible with drain on battery. Battery is now charged (12.83 dcv) and checks good on a load test. Alternator is n/g, but before I install the new one I need to locate the source of a 400 plus milliamp draw.

My meter maximum is 400 milliamp and it flashes OL , meaning the draw is over the 400 milliamp, but it does not blow the 500 milliamp fuse in the meter.

I pulled every fuse from the fuse block with no change in the meter reading.

What is the next step or steps to correctly diagnois ?

Thanks for any help anyone might have

Hi, I have a 88 coupe, Z52 also. I had a draw on the car when I bought it, I've had it 10 years. What I found and there's a bulletin on the problem on this site , was the power seat action back and forth abraids the power wire to the seat. The power door locks are on the same circuit breaker and not a fuse. The circuit breaker was hotter than hell since it is live with the ignition off. I would check it anyway even if your not having problems with the seats or door locks, mine was intermittent but I'm glad I found it. Good luck to ya.

Had the same problem with my wife's 87 and it was the drivers seat also .

Battery Drain from ctrsy/clock and lcd circuits

Muddywaters and Vett Boy:Thanks for the heads up on the seat issue!

I found the time recently to double check my work and discovered the drain is coming from not one but two circiuts. With the crty/clock and lcd fuses both removed the milliamp draw is 34.7

With either one of the fuses installed the reading goes over 400 milliamp.

The 5amp lcd fuse is the power for the cluster microproccesor memory. Does this mean the cluster is bad and needs to be rebuilt?

Does anyone know if the draw can be from a common source or should I be looking for two different problems?

Thanks for any input
