88 Heater Question

I've got an 88 with the electronic climate control. The heater only seems to be flowing leukwarm air at best. The radiator and antifreeze was flushed and replaced last year. Could it be a block heater core or is there someplace else I need to look at first? There was a lot of rust in the system when it was flushed. I usually only drive it when it is nice during the winter so it isn't a big problem but I would like to get it working right. Outside temp was in the low 40's and I had the heat set on 80.

I've only done one heater core before (on my old Nova many years ago) so how hard is it to replace if that's the problem? Seems like everything I try to fix on the Vette takes me 3 times as long as I think it should!

Warm it up, feel the heater hoses going to the heater core, make shure they are hot I don't know if your vette has a water valve or not. if so maybe it's stuck closed. maybe there is air in the sytem still from when you flushed it. or maybe the blend air door is not functioning. but I would check the hoses to make shure they are hot.. and may shure the radiator hoses are very hot too because the thermostat could be stuck.

I just changed my heater core a couple of weeks ago and it was a PITA. I've changed a couple of cores in the past and they were nothing like my Vette. I'll never change another heater core in a newer Vette. I'll pay somebody and save the headaches and the skin on my hands.:L

But I forgot the title of it!

Dis connect the heater core and do a manual flush....

Using the garden hose ( Low pressure )

Make an adaptor to go to the hose end

Run a hose to a catch bucket... see what comes out!

Right Right, I probably forgot to mentiont the core could be cloged up especially since alot of people don't flush their cooling system. should do it 1-2 years.. not that it matters a whole lot but some dunt da dunt put the regular coolant in my LT1 after they did the water pump (before I bought the car) oh well I am going to flush it as soon as I am done with this damm trans job on it.. and I will put dexcool in.. not that it makes a differance just that I am anal like that..

RICK,I noticed the prestone dexcool tends to crust up/ use the texaco dex in the black jug,cheaper 2,& gm approved & cut it with "distilled water"

Thanks for the tip.. I noticed that too with dexcool that even from the factory it doesn't last as long as they first claim.. thats why it really doesn't matter which you put into your car.. just as long as you change it every 1-2 years.. hee hee btw I probably won't be buying the coolant.. my shop gets it in bulk drums so I get a nice deal on it thats the benifit of busting your knuckles for a living..
