Well I tried to start the car yesterday and the battery was dead. I was able to add some water and charge it, but I think it is time for a battery change. I see I will have to remove some parts to get at it. Any suggestions as to the best type of replacement battery with the least amount of maintenance?

Doc-
Do a search and find an almost exact same thread a month or two old about recommended battery replacements (there might even be 2 of these threads) and another about replacement procedures.

I went to NAPA and got an Orbital dry cell last year...works great. 10° outside and it starts everytime. Plus no acid to leak or freeze and bust a battery.

And it is made for Dana...which owns, Mr. Gasket, NAPA, Spicer and others. It comes with a 2 year complete replacement warranty and an 84 month pro rated after that. Basically it is the same as the Optima but cheaper...

I had a thread some time ago about why I say STAY AWAY from Exide.
Wont get into it now but it wasn't worth saving 10 bucks just to spend another 150 because of the piece of crap !

Replacement Battery

Series 75 is what is called for!
Optima has one just for you, and you never have to worry about a leak!

Hey, I replied to a thread awhile back. I use the Optima Red, it has the longest warranty I could find plus it won't leak. Great battery.

did that NAPA battery fit without having to "trim" anything to make it fit - as I have heard you do w/ the Optima??

I didn't have to trim. A little tight, but everything bolted back in with no hassle. Go with Optima and take your time on the install

The Orbital went in like it was made for the car...no hassles at all...I highly recommend the Orbital battery from NAPA.

Dana makes the best rear end, gears, u-joints, it only stands to reason the battery would be of the same quality.

Was there an issue with the top posts in the way with cruise control or otherwise. I don't know what model of Orbital and looked at but it had side and top posts and I heard of problems needing to cut off the top posts.

Thanks.

Be very careful. Optima is a good battery, but I bought the oh-my-god one for my '95 and it didn't fit, I had to take it back. I went with the Exide NASCAR and haven't had a problem. BTW, mine is a 10 second car :-).
