This is an 89' coupe. Tail lights and turn signals work. When the brake pedal is pressed the light on top of the car lights up but the four tail lights do not. Also, the cruise control does not work. I think the two may be related. Can anybody tell me what is wrong and what I need to do to fix this? Thanks a lot guys!

First off, welcome to the CAC. How long ago did you pick up this 89 Coupe? I'm not sure if I can be of much help but I would start at the fuse panel. Sometimes the weirdest things can be fixed with a simple fuse. Hopefully someone will be along to give more and better advice.

I'd check the brake light switch up under the dash near the brake pedal. Sometimes that can be the culprit and I believe the cruise control switch is on that same switch.

You should check to make sure the wire harness is firmly connected to the switch before replacing it. The CHMSL is connected to the same switch so there could be loose wiring in the connector. Also make sure the brake pedal is releasing the button or the button is going all the way out.

The cruise switch should be a separate switch, but it is right next to the brake light switch so look for anything out of adjustment or any looseness.

Ripp, thank you for the warm welcome. I have had this coupe about three weeks. P.S guys, I have tried replacing the brake switch and nothing changed. Today I am going to tinker with the cruise switch. Keep that advice rolling! Thanks a lot guys!

It is odd that the third brake light works, but the others dont. Is it possible that the bulbs aren't a three way bulb. Was there any work done to the car, that could've warranted the other owner to replace the bulbs or something. I am just shooting in the dark. If the tail lights work then the fuse must be good, right.

If your turnsignals come on ,,, all your wiring is good and the problem is probably in the turnsignal switch it's self....the cam on the inside of the turnsignal switch is not returning to the neutral posshion...if your emergency flashers work,,, the problem will be in the turn signal switch

Awesome! Thank you so much! I went out and purchased a new turn signal switch today. Are there any instructions anywhere on how to do this removal and install? I have tilt/tele and cruise. Thanks!
