Hey all, thought I'd write this out real quick while it was on my mind. I received a notice from my local dealer that my '03 was due for it's 9000 mile maint. I don't recall seeing in the owners manual that one was required. Could someone give this dumbass accountant from Plano some advice? Thanks.

Sounds like the dealer has a program to pitch you on shorter maintenance periods. What does the oil life calculator say in the DIC? If you are down around 25% oil life remaining or one year since the last oil change, then it would be advisable to get an oil and filter change. Otherwise, I would keep on driving. If you do go in for an oil and filter change, I would at a minimum stick with the Mobil 1 that was put in the engine at the factory. There are many fans of other synthetics on this forum; which oil you choose is your decision.

never heard of a 9k service.............

Thanks guy's. Just had the oil changed a couple of months ago so couldn't be that. Maybe I'll give them a call and see what they're talking about...just out of curiousity.

Nick, did you ever call the dealer about the 9000 mile service? Curiousity overwhelms me.... (I am not trying to pester; it is just... too funny????)

Hey cavettefan. As a matter of fact I did call the dealership. Your response to my question mentioned the oil change. You were right. What the advisor said was that when their computer estimated a certain mileage that a notice would be sent out, but the notice doesn't specify the oil change. It specify's a general statement that the target mileage (in this case 9,000 miles) requires maintenance. So who knows, maybe it is a sucker statement. Fortunately, I had the oil changed a couple of months ago when the DIC indicated 28%. It was the Mobil 1 synthetic oil.

On another note, I really love this car. I had shoulder surgery a couple of weeks ago and didn't think I would be able to drive it for about 6 weeks. I lasted one week. My left arm is in a sling to isolate the shoulder, but I've been able to get in and out of the car with no problem.

Thanks for your help, man!

It is a bit amazing that they have a system that projects usage based on some set of criteria and then sends mail to remind owners to have their car serviced. Only some percentage of owners have already had their car serviced. If they had cross-referenced the mailing list with recent service customers, they might be able to save on wasted postage. Oh, well... its only money....

Hope your shoulder is healing well.
