1991 red L98
I have a 1991 L98 with 21k original miles. It starts, runs rough, when it warms up starts knocking sound, then ticking, then cuts off wont start till completely cools off. All guages seem normal, but set off SES, so I had a buddy check codes, came up with Code 36. According to all I read thats for MAF burn off circut, but this car isnt supposed to have MAF, it has MAP. Should this code be coming up? does the MAP also have a burn off circut or should I just be look for loose wires and/or replace MAP? Ideas?

You are correct. A 91 L98 has no MAF sensor.

I'd suggest you take matters into your own hands because your buddy might be a little lacking on his engine controls procedures.

There is no Code 36 for 1991. It's likely the code was read incorrectly or the procedure or tools used to obtain the codes were faulty.

The first things I'd do are:
1) Buy the factory service manual
2) Read the section on getting the ECM to display fault codes.
