I'm in the market for a service manual (just one?) for my 1-yr old (to me) '95 C4. I have a Haynes. Its okay but lacking detail like my wife's Honda Accord Factory manual. Now that is one piece of work!
I have read many references about Helms manuals on this site, both new and on E-Bay. When I go to Helms I can find the manual okay, but I'm not certain what I will be getting in the way of info I can really use. Does one manual cover engine, drivetrain, chassis and body or what? Do I need more than one manual? Are these identical to the manuals I can get through my GM dealer? I'm looking for technical info I can use to troubleshoot anything from Opti to ABS troubleshooting and repair. I'm a backyard mechanic but I have the experience and tools to handle just about anything except the tranny. I could maybe takle a tranny if one of those big burly dudes on Junkyard Wars threw a wrench at me and said, "Here, you go make this thing work, and you've got two hours!"
Any advice out there?
Best wishes and thanks, as always.
Ted
PS - I've had Opti problems too! Just got a new one replaced at the dealer. They said my 20K water pump was fine. Two months later I smell antifreeze. Could find no leaks from hoses, etc. (gulp... not the ___n pump! Sure enough a visual of the weep hole showed old seepage and... dang is that smear of wet on my finger tip sweet-tasting? Sure enough, the stinking pump. I've never had one go out on a GM before 50K. Sure, I know, GM says the direct gear drive (no belt load on the bearing) is supposed to make the thing last 100K right? Wrong. I'm taking a chance. Looks easy to replace. I just purchased a lifetime guaranteed, new one through Autozone for $129. Too much cheaper ($100+)than Delco not to try it. That's what got me thinking about a shop manual.:eyerole
