A/C Removal help

Hey guys, ok im trying to ditch the whole a/c system in my 82....... i have the condensor, compressor, and lines going to the hvac assemblyand elec connections are off...... do i need to replace the whole assembly? or can i just leave the piping coming out of the assembly there? can i just switch out the outer assem w/ anon-ac cars? what all would be required with that? i wanna get this part done while my motor is out...... i found this on ebay....

HELLO TONY: -can well understand why someone would jetison the whole/entire AC-junk (save the heating-sys. needed for winter) for a much more sanitary eng.-bay (which am indeed contemplating), --but it rather seems you are motivated to achieve something else; --exactly what is not really made clear by you! ---Your orig. GM/AC is well-designed/engineered (just replace that which is defective), -personally feel AC is a silly if absurdly complex sort of problematical thing, --only justified maybe in extreme-environment places like DeathValley or the Moon!) Yes, if you are trying to just logically eliminate the cooling portion of the system, then would seem best to swap(with at least $300 to your favor) your costly orig.AC-hardware with an earlier C3-owner having the basic orig./Heating-system but wanting the factory AC-system; as I may also be looking to do (but you want to be dealing with someone you can trust will indeed trade-across every needed detail part, -and most preferably one which is still operating OK in their car)! -Bob vH [wonder what others feel about this notion]

You have two options - do as you have already done and continue to use just the heater portion of the system, or remove the entire inner and outer cases (if you're trying to make more space under the hood) and "cobble up" a heater system by using a 1979 or earlier inner and outer heater system (there was no heater-only setup for any Corvette after 1980, when A/C became standard equipment).

The second (conversion) option gets really ugly, as it requires different holes in the firewall panel, and the control system is completely different from what's installed in your car now. Even with the first option, be careful what vacuum and electrical equipment/wiring you tear out, as the control system is quite complex and is integrated with the rest of the car's wiring. Before you're done, you'll probably wish you had left it alone.
