About ready for hammer action (HELP)

Could all my injectors got all gummed from sitting for the last couple years.

After I took my '86 out of 10 years of storage, it took the shop a few hours of running until the car started to run. Was fine for over a year until I put in some Chevron fuel injection cleaner and Chevron gas which seemed to have dislodged a floatie and clogged up my No. 3 injector.

Hey gmjunkie,

The vette is a 90. Their is 5 or 6 fusible links behind the battery. One ie by it's self and runs toward the back of the car in rocker panel. I checked that one and is ok. The others are coming from a square box.

Just a shot in the dark. Is their any thing that would stop the injectors from pumping fuel. If I have fuel to the fuel rail but not getting to the engine. All the injectors ohm at 16. Is their a relay for the injectors or does the computer send palse straight to injectors. Or is their any thing else that controns the injectors. Thanks for any help.

Yes there is

Take a good hard look at what is said just below the diagram. The TPS controls what the ECM knows about the throttle plate opening and with that knowledge it provides fuel to the injectors. A bad TPS can cause a no start condition and it won't necessarily have any codes. I hope this will be your fix.

If you hav any problems or questions with this let me know. I JUST replaced mine with one from Eckler's. It is an adjustable one and is perfect. It works great. I know a lot about this stupid thing now. :upthumbs

My lesson about the TPS cost me $500.00 for an ecm I didn't need. I know it is temping to go to a parts store and get the $30 version but that's what I had that cost me so much you may have to pay around $90.00 for the oem but it is worth it.:beer

John, the Eckler's adjustable is VERY easy to install, you can monitor and adjust the voltage down to the perfect level. In my opinion it was WELL worth it. I know a lot of people who have bought OEM's and took a Dremel and slotted them so they could adjust them. I no longer have ANY of the many problems I did before I bought it and Junk was INVALUABLE in his help too.

I voted for Junk

Paul you are right about Junk. The point I was trying to make is the cheap TPS from the local parts store is just that junk. I learned my lesson at the expense of my wallet. If there are three prices for the same thing I opt for the middle to higher cost or the brand name I have had good luck with.

Actually I am surprised you found one at a parts store. Here in Atlanta we have about a zillion of them and one day I spent ALL day looking and couldn't find one.

So I ordered overnight from Eckler's and it worked perfectly. What I like the most is the ability to adjust down to the tiniest voltage level.

Also, I discovered that OEM's are engine specific. They need certain part numbers for certain engines. Hence the adjustability. Good for any engine.

You get what you pay for.

What you dont know

Like you I found out that what you dont know about the TPS and how it controls the ECM could drive you to a program.:boogie

I was AMAZED at what that stupid little variable resistor controls. Auto transmission shifting, well, the list is too long. It almost seemed to me at the time that it was THE most important component on the engine.

When I was looking into teoz's problem, I saw a list of components in the system, MAF, TPS, O2's, and a bunch more. I am STILL leaning towards a ground or clogged injectors. I would get a known good one and see what happens. If that doesn't work then it HAS to be a ground at the ECM. It would almost be easier if he ad thrown some codes!
;shrug

And then there is the old bug that says it cant be ----- because it is new. I dont know about you but I have a list of stories about bad new parts that could fill the library of congress;LOLThe latest was last month when I changed plugs and wires and the car ran fine for about a week then started to miss. The end of the story is that I had two bad plugs and two bad wires and of course one of each was on the #8 cylinder.

I am sure by now teoz's feels like a squarrel running around in a squarrel gage wheel. I would suggest you start over and carefully go back over what you have done and if possible reinstall the old parts one at a time to see if that changes anything. Also take notes on what you find and if you had any trouble in removing a wire connector etc. With the age of the wireing conncetors and wires it is possible to brake a connection this way. If possible use a ground light and or a continuity tester to check for a bad wire or ground to a circuit. I think when you find it it will be something simple good luck

Famous words in aircraft maintenance, whether in the Air Force or DAL, "This part is bad from supply."

Yeah,I spent 2 week fooling with a Bad ground on my 94 that I missed because I couldn't see it and was fumbling around in a place where you couldn't get any light and your eye balls in at the same time!!It made the ECM,TPS and other sensor's do all sorts of weird Sh*t!!:hb:hb:hb

Now on the TPS,it may be a good Idea to just un-plug it and try to start it!! They will run with it un-plugged,but may not if it's shorted!! It's hard to believe that All 8 injectors would be plugged to the point that it wouldn't even pop, fart, backfire or something!!:thumb:thumb

I agree Junk, ALL 8, odds are high against. I still feel it HAS to be a missed ground somewhere. He'll find it or there will be a nice pile of broken fiberglas all over the place. :boogie

I am just going to finish paint and put every piece of the interior back in, Then I will go from there. Thanks guys I will let you all know what it is. I talk to jon at F.I.C. and said he didn't think it was the injectors. He say problely the vats system. As soon as I have it together then I will get back on it. Couple days.
