AC evaporator drain hole?

On the bottom side of my air cond. evaporator assembly---about 5 inches forward from where the two heater core hoses attach--there is a 1/2 inch factory hole in the evap. assembly. Is this a drain hole of some type? I assume it should be open and not plugged? (Cold air blows out from the hole when the AC is on.)
My 73 factory assembly manual and Chevrolet shop manual have not provided any photos, diagrams, or answers re my question--that I can locate. What is it? Thanks! --G.P. Black

George,
If you look over at the bottom right of the fan/blower motor assembly you will find a round hole (would be about the 5 o'clock position). there should be a rubber/plastic tube that connects that hole in the evap assembly with the fan/blower assembly. It is to help cool the fan motor. With that tube missing it is just another place for hot engine air to get sucked into the interior of the car.

I was unable to find that tube in the repo market so ended up finding one at a Vette salvage dealer.

Tom: I located the holes/openings that you referred to. The tube you described is in place. The 1/2 " opening I am referring to can only be seen from under the vehicle--it is on the very bottom of the evap. assembly, directly adjacent to the two heater core brass extension tubes--to which the two heater hoses are attached. It is a factory hole/opening. A drain hole is the only thing that I can think of.--George

Drain hole

Yes, that's the condensate drain hole.
