Anyone have any suggestions on what kind of intake to bolt on to my stock Z06? Im looking for some solid if marginal HP gains.I also want to go with a catback exhaust with an X-Pipe.
I read an article on the Magna Flow X pipe and ex. system and it was pretty impressive.23HP at the wheels over stock. But that was a C5 coupe.I wouldnt mind a better sound at idle as well but thats secondary.
Ive had a local Corvette guy tell me that GHL is the best that they have tried.I know there are alot of brands out there.

Any advice would be appreciated.:w

Hey, Dwayne- what about Veraram? I'm hearing lots of folks say they like Veraram better than Blackwing for air intake systems.

I am a VaraRam advocate. I believe that I got 3-4MPH trapspeed and about 0.3-0.4 seconds improvement in the quarter mile with the Vararam. The evidence for the 3-4 MPH is very clear, and the evidence for the decreased time is a bit more cloudy. The drawback to the VaraRam is that it can take in water pretty easily. I have had not had trouble with ordinary light rain (contrary to some opinions, the car did not melt), but I would fear puddles and any other standing water. If large amounts could be splashed into the intake, or the water was deep enough to just suck it in, there could be some serious problems. There have been reports of a few cases of hydrolock, but I do NOT know whether they are true.

It is a do it yourself installation, but it requires some parts removal, and you have to get the nose up far enough to get under the car. I used some ramps.

I heard Water intake was an issue with the BW as well.Did you gain your 3-4 MPH with an intake alone?

Yes, I did. The complication with the 0.3-0.4 second claim is that I added some drag radials shortly after that. With no mods, street tires, and a track at 2600ft, I only ran faster that 13 seconds once. And that was a 12.99 at 108MPH. I added the VaraRam and drag radials at about the same time. I commonly run 12.6 @ 112 now, and have bests of 12.42 and 113.63MPH. The faster trap speed is due to more horsepower. Hooking up better at the line helps et, but does not do that much to trap speed. So the drag radials have relatively little to do with trap speed. The time improvement is harder to pin down, as my times can vary by as much as 0.4 seconds depending on several factors. If I remember correctly, I added the VaraRam before the tires and thought I got about 0.3-0.4 seconds. Between the tires and the VaraRam, I picked up 0.6-0.7 seconds and about 4MPH.

For intake, get hte Callaway Honker. Recently vette magazine wrote a report about it and they were really impressed with its quality and HP gains.

The x-pipe and the catback are a waste of money in my opinion if you have a Z06. The Z06's Ti catback is not restrictive and very light; if you want to change your exhaust, install LG long tube headers. Good sound + Good Power gain.

The Callaway Honker made something like 19 hp on the exact same car, same dyno over the blackwing - AMAZING numbers!

Callaway Cars recently had a "garage sale", getting rid of old, unwanted parts - it was interesting to see all the "other intakes" go bye-bye that had been used for comparison...

If your looking for best perfomance you won't find anything better then the Vararam. No other system can compare. That being said the dangers of water in the intake are there. I have the system also and have driven it in the rain with no problems. On the other hand I am more weary trailing people to closely during the rain (having the tires kick up water) and I keep an eye out for puddles so I'm not beind a car when it hits the puddle.
