{Aero} interesting package - 1985(?) for sale

About to go look at this car in person. Pictures to follow later today:)

Surely eager to see those pictures! There is something I can't figure out thats out of place with that Aerobody Vette. Remember that one that showed up on Ebay maybe a year ago, it had the mid-80 interior but with the Aerobody on her. Was that an authenticate kit? How much is he asking for it?

Wellll.....I'm not sure I would waste my money on this car unless you could talk him down a lot!! I couldn't tell if it was a fake Aerobody kit or not. I looked in a couple places for the tags but didn't see any. Not sure if there were no tags or I just missed them. The guy didn't really know anything about the car. The info gave me was just generic info about a sports car that a guy would tell you if he was trying to sell one. The Aerobody kit had "fake" lights in it. For anybody who knows Callaway Corvette you could easly tell they weren't right. The car also had non Callaway emblems on it. As you can see in the pictures, the gas filler looked like a stock one for that car and the emblem in the front of the car looked to be off an earlyer year 'Vette.

I'm going to have to go the direction of it being a counterfeit kit. No one in there right mind would put a C3 emblem on a real Callaway. The overall craftmanship is way below the standard. Anyone else.........

The hood blisters did appear to be to far up the hood and they didn't do anything. You can kind of tell in the pictures that they were closed off and it was obvious they were closed when I looked on the inside of the hood because there was no air ducts at all to move the air.

The Sales guy also told me that the car had been recently repainted. It looked as if paint was they did and no body work to fix and serious chips around the front end.
Here is a pic of the painted beltline:

The interior of the car allright I guess for a car with 90k+ miles on it. He started it up and let it run for a little bit. I didn't sound to bad. I asked them how much $$ they wanted for it.....I can't remember exactly what he said, but it was either $12,500 or $13,500. I thought both were to much for the car so I didn't really concentrate of remember the price.

Reuben. Thanks for help! Thats about a 5 hour drive for me and doesn't sound like kit is too legit. Besides at that price it would make a nice dent in real B2K. Was Callaway name in rear bumper embossed in bumper or just sticker couldn't tell from ebay picture?

Thanks Again Ike

Smart desicion on just waiting for a real B2K. It might be hard to tell from this picture after I resized it to this size, but it was embossed into the the bumper. As you can tell they had painted it to make it stand out more but it was a pour paint job.

From the photos you took, I could not see if the "teardrops" were on the hood where the original emblem would have been removed.

Good point Mark, I wasn't thinking about it but now that you mention in they aren't there. If you look at the hood blisters and then look at a real Callaway with the hood blisters you can see a difference there also. On this one they are blinded right in with the hood and on a real Callaway they look like seperate pieces that have been attached somehow.

...very dissapointing - That car is awful - between the lights (lens') and the side "gills" and emblems, it is very poor :eek

Having seen the Sledgehammer up close and in person, I can tell you that the hand crafed original had incredible quality compared to that hack job - Save your money Reuben, the right car will come!

I apologize for posting the link in the first place, that car is terrible and if anything - hopefully it was a great learning experience.
Thanks Reuben for visiting that car - I think $5k would be generous for that car :eek

Rain - I get it, "rain car" ;LOL funny stuff - bet yo get that a lot ;)

I wasn't planning on buying it. Being within an hour's drive I figured it would'nt hurt to go check it out and take a couple pics.
Just as I started on my way home I stumbled across a few garden snakes.......

As it turned out the Viper Clubs of Indiana and Kentucky were going to be meeting there and one of the guys told me that there were going to 40 to 50 more there shortly. I hung around for a little bit longer and took some pictures, but I got board taking pictures of the "kit" cars so those were the only ones I saw.

Ummm... Did you ask how long it had been on the lot? $13,000 for a 1985 with a rip-off body and 100k miles?? ;LOL :eyerole The eBay auction is up to about $3,200, which seems a fair price for it. I wouldn't pay more than about $4,000 for that car, and I'd expect to have to put some money into it once I got it.

Oh yea, get it alot more in my 30s than when I was a kid.
go figure!

But I push it here on the forum when folks complain about the rain etc.
;LOL

Thanks for checking out the car for us -
