AFR heads - Should I go with 180cc or 195cc?

Want to leave room for possibly going with full SR intake setup, this may or may not happen down the road.

Should I go with the smaller or larger intake runners on the heads? Either way, will go with custom 55cc or 58cc combustion chambers rather than
off the shelf 68cc.

I am in the same boat, but with a 400 small block. If you look at the flow numbers on the heads, mid range is where you want to focus for a good driver (i.e. Around .400 inch lift) The bigger the numbers here the better the torque you will have for a good driver. The beauty of the afr heads is that the flow numbers in the upper lift range are very close to the same between the 180's and 190's which means that the intake velocity is greater on the smaller heads and therefore will give you equal flow at high lifts, allowing high Hp without sacrificing much low end torque.

I hope this helps, Tom

AFR's

Hi,
I have the 195's on my LT1. Be prepared that when you order your heads from them it will take a while. It took them a good 6 weeks last year when I ordered mine. They did a very good job witht the porting. You have many options available to you with your motor. The LT1/LT4 is limited to just a couple of players, with AFR being the best, but as you know they are expensive.

Have fun!

Don't forget Brodix, and I here you can get them quicker. AFR has had some problems other than the wait time recently. I have AFR 195's so I'm not trying to knock them for any reason. Just another good option. There are others as well that are good quality and less expensive depending on what exactly you want to do with them.

I would check out all options, if you haven't already done so. Very happy with my AFR's, but as I posted before, with an LT1/LT4 there are limited options, yoiu have many more choices with an L98.

Good Luck!

Thats probably because the LT1/LT4 doesn't need as many options as the L98!:) I have checked everything I could, I think AFR is one of two companies that do custom orders. I can't go with an off the shelf 68cc chambers, thats a decrease in compression and thus power. My L98 heads are either 55 or 58cc, so I must custom order. The cost can be kept down since I'll do this thru one of AFR's distributors. I'm much inclined to go with 180cc runners if I can get away with it (they may need some very minor port matching after receipt), as Vader86 recommended, but I have to think harder if I really think a full SR intake setup is in the future, and this decision can't be made yet.
