I have a bad remote for my 95 that I need to replace. Does anyone know of a less expensive place to buy a replacement then the dealer? Dealer wants 160 to replace it!

Jedi,
Yeah, I just bought my 95 and the previous owner either broke or lost the remote. I didn't think about an aftermarket unit, and ordered one from a dealer in VA. It really chaffed my a$$ to pay $142.00 but it was easy to program and works like a champ.

What is wrong with the remote? I may be able to fix it for you....let me know.

The casing is split so I have a rubberband holding it together. The plastic hook that keeps it closed broke off so I don't think it can be repaired. I recived it this way from the person I purchased the vette from. Plus the remote sometimes does not work (IE: I can't open the door or hatch from afar) but it is intermintent.

Does anyone know of an aftermarket parts shop in Northern VA?

NO problem...if you can do without it for a week or so send it to me and I can repair it for you....you take care of shipping and parts. labor free to CAC members. Could save you the 125.00 for a new one. You really do not have a thing to loose...

I have a '96 w/same problem

Eagle...I found the replacement remote to be approx. $160 from GM also!

Found one in Eckler's for $139..still whoa!

I live in an extremely low-crime, gated, safe hood...so we don't really even worry about locking our cars or alarms etc. I've been doing without my remote....but mine has the same problem..cracked casing...but may work ok though..

Do you refurbish these???

let me know..

BTW: I'm new to this forum..but have been a very active member of a similiar forum for mercedes owners!..A wealth of information!

Bought a '96 polo green/ with 30k in Kansas City a few weeks ago. Car has spent it's whole life as a garage queen...My first Vette!

Thanks

Sean...

First let me say Welcome to CAC...you will find this place to be the best all around...for help, friendship and the sharing of knowledge for our beloved cars.

It is hard to say without seeing the remote. But in most instances I can repair the case or simply replace the case with one close to the original. Send an email and I will give you the address where to send it so I can check it out. Worst case you are out a bit of shipping....Eagle

Many Corvette owners are very picky, and since you say you may replace the case with one "similar", some owners may not like that, so ebay is just another solution/suggestion

Then for those I shall strive to repair the existing case so they may maintain the originality of the the remote. And still save them money. In the event it cannot be replaced and or they do not mind a similar case for the remote then I will do that. And yet....still save them money.
