Do the aftermarket stereos affect the value of the car or is it okay to put something better than what it comes with.

Thanks, Chuck

:bar

It probably only affects the value if the car is otherwise numbers matching, and the buyer wants to do the NCRS thing. Nobody else gives a flip.

As long as you don't cut up the dash and just keep the orginal equipment to give to the new buyer or to re-install.

I cringe when I look inside and see a big rectangular , misfitting radio cobbled in . If you can fit a radio that looks factory but is modern design it wouldn't bother me at all . Cliff

I dont know about anybody else but when I go for a cruise, I got to have the music I love playing. I for one dont care about what others see as original because I am plan on own my vette for a long time. I got one of them original lookin aftermarket radios with a CD changer in the back.:Steer :_rock

personally, onced the motor started changing way past numbers matching and nothing else became was stock... i just changed the whole dash and console........

How did you change it did you custom did you make it or buy it somewhere? If so can you let me know I am thinking of getting something better for my vette to look more custom.

Thanks, Chuck

did it all myself, its great what a tub of fiberglass resin and and some sandpaper can do........ im thinking of ust redoin the ENTIRE dash....... but that would be an undertaking........ what i did with this part fo the dash was take a dremel and butcher it to the point where all that was left what the mounting parts............ then fillied it in with fiberglass..... its really tricky to get ti smooth(which i wasnt great at) but i like it........ gave me the new option to use better gauges that will hopefully be more precise that the stock ones that never read quite right.....

Sounds to advanced for me looks great though I wish I had the talent to make mine look that good.
Thanks, Chuck

I see consoles on Ebay all of the time or at least quite often.:w
Do search on "CORVETTE CONSOLE" I just saw at least two black ones.

Bah! I admit it's a little tougher in the pre-78 Vettes. But in the newer C3s it looks great! Except for those who are looking for "non-original" equipment, the appearance is completely natural...

After I get my tax return this year, Im going to be putting something close to what i have in my truck. Alpine CD player, Infinity speaker, 4" front, and 6x9 rear, a rocksford fosgate punch amp, and 2 10" JL audio subs. But that is after i redue the carpet, and door panels. I cant stand the stock radio.......

Heh,

I have that exact same bluepoint stereo installed in my 90' eagle...overkill but i need good sound if im going to drive a crap car lol:).

personally, I like the look of the orginal radio, however mine doesn't work. I thought about sending it off to be rebuilt with elctronic parts but the cost was too expensive. So I'm stuck with my delimma.

Decent System

If I were you, I would go ahead with a decent system. I have design plans for a pretty decent system that is going to require a fair amount of work but look pretty stealthy when done. First, I am having the door panels modified to accept a pair of 5 1/4" Kickers Impulse components on each door. Then, two 8" Eclipse subs for the rear compartment in a suspended box so that I can still easily fit the t-tops in there. I haven't decided what exact headunit to go with yet, but I am leaning towards Kenwood because I want to use their Music KEG for my giant MP3 library. In the end, it comes down to what you want to do, but I don't think it would ruin the car by adding a decent stereo. Of course, I crossed that line a LONG time ago....

I wouldnt get a Kenwood if I was you. You should look into eclispe or alpine, they are better built and have alot of options with them. What kind of amp are you wanting to push those 8"s? Ill be happy with my system as long as I can still put my T Tops in the back. MB Cort makes real good speakers also, but I personally like JL Audio for subs. Anyways, you know what they say about opions. Let me know how it turns out. Peace.

My car is a numbers matching, unmodified car. Only one channel of the original stereo works. I'm trying to decide if its time to forget about keeping the car original and putting on true dual exhaust, and a kick a__ stereo. I do not use the car as a daily driver & I think in my case, the value would go down if I start messing with things. I am also toying with buying a newer vette (late C3 or early C4) to drive most of the time and modify as I like. However, I really do not want to drive a vette in the winter here and that means 3 cars for me and only one for my wife ;) and I only have a 2 car garage!!!

Oh, the delemas in life. I think I'll try to talk the wife into letting me buy her a Corvette, but knowing her, I might never get to drive it!

I definately need to win the lottery :v

I can still store my T-tops in the rear , I had the Curcuit City guys install the Cd changer inside the box for the jack.

The reason I thought about going with a Kenwood was simplicity. The Kenwood Music KEG will display file folders and files through a Kenwood headunit. I originally thought of going with an Alpine unit, but soon discounted that idea. In a perfect world, I would go with an Eclipse head and maybe a different jukebox like the Neo 35. I just wanted to keep the guage area as uncluttered as possible. As for the amp, I have a Phoenix Gold Tantrum 4-channel amp ready to roll. I picked the Kicker components beacause of cost, power handling, and they sounded pretty decent. I liked the Eclipse subs because of their size. I am not looking for a world-class system; just something a bit more modern!

Keep posting pics I want to see what everyone has done with there sounds.

Thanks, Chuck
