1980 silver with blk interior 1987 blue / blue
now for an orange face lift.
I think all the shark years should have been orange.

Nice. I don't know.....I like it the way it is in that picture. I know...I know....it wouldn't be original..... ;)

Don't ya just love a new engine? :D

Congratulations on your new heart! :upthumbs

I always liked Orange on a SBC however bein an 80 the block should have been blue from the factory

:beer

I put one of those in my '73 about 700 miles ago...my advice, hold on! It a fun motor.

blue?

naaa blue is for F@#DS
I don't really care if looks orig. heck it's got center bolt valve covers. Just got done painting it orange, too bad I can only work on it on the weekends, but I have all winter.
:D

Good decision. Chevy orange is the most beautiful color for a chevy, and the only one in my totally worthless opinion!

Sad to say mine is still blue.

I say leave it the way it is - a ZZ4 is a legend all on its own!:upthumbs Something menacing about that dark looking engine when it's crammed between those monstrous fenders.

Blue is not for JUST for Fords-

Even my anemic L-48 was blue. Of course, now its an L-98.....

Silver,

The Chevrolet Blue marks a new direction in GM. Plasti-Koat Chevrolet Blue # 201 all the way!!!...:_rock

p.s. I still like the orange color, but mostly in BBC's.

when it's in I'll snap a couple. I think with the engine comp being black the orange will look better in it .

Yea I have to agree on the valve covers, they just used one side and then fliped it for the other side so I have two fill hole and two pvc holes:(
I'm thinking of going with late model valve covers something like 91 I like the emblem better on that style.

Sweet engine and orange is cool.....But the valve covers have got to go . Why do they do that?? :(

I think two reasons. 1) It's a common engine for many apps. Black is easy and fits about any color scheme.
2) It's cheaper than chrome.

My ZZ4...

Notice my double-pulley going to the water pump? Highly advised to do the same. I spun belts off twice with the ZZ4 and the stock pulleys... Not a good thing to have no water pump a-pumpin' with aluminum cylinder heads!

Break it in right, then enjoy the hell out of it! It's a great engine!

temp sensor

Evo 80,
what did you use for a temp sensor in the head?
the one that's on the old L48 is way to big for the ZZ4.

Tom, I spoke with my mechanic. He said that he doesn't recall using any special temp sensor. If he did need a different one, he just went to the dealer and order a temp sensor for an '80 vette. he also said that he doubts he used any adapters (adapters are below him.) I suppose when I get the chance I could take a picture, but it probably wouldn't be anytime soon, as my car is off in storage for the winter. If ya really need it though, let me know and I'll be happy to persue it further for you.

That ZZ4, I assume it's a new engine, right? But, it's not a new Vette. So, in theory, you can put new Corvette engines in old Corvettes and engines don't have to be compatable with years? Is that how that sort of "buy" works?

How much would an engine like that cost? Is it hard to put one of them in? Looks like a crane of some sort would be needed with copias tools.

Do all of you guys have garages that you do this in? Wow, that looks really fun and nice.

Essentially, you can just baout put any Chevy engine into a vette with modifications, some minor, some major.

Any carburated engine based on the GM 350 or 454 can be dropped in any C3 or earlier vette with relative ease.

Engines from the C4 era and up which rely on computer controls require quite a bit more work, as the computer adds another whole dimension to the install. But they too an be installed on C3 & earlier vettes.

"Crate Engines", such as the ZZ4, 383HT, ZZ430, 502HO, etc. are all factory built engines sans the carburator/fuel injection system. This way, they can be fitted with either setup.

I prefer to stick with carburated engines, as I'd rather ony have to deal with carb setup and vacuum issues, rather than dealing with computers, injectors, sensors, etc. Plus, I feel you get more bang for the buck hp & torque wise dealing with the typically carburated engines versus those like the newer LT & LS series engines...but that's just my opinion.
