What type of aftermarket air cleaners will fit inder a stock 81 hood with stock intake and carb? Thanks Tim

What do you want? Most of the generic Q-Jet stuff will work.

The stock 81 set up is pretty good.

A stock 68-71 open element set up would look great.

:)

Mike, I want to get rid of the stock dual snorkel air cleaner in order to expose more of the engine and dress it up appearance wise...Tim

It may look better, but you will give up performance, as you are now breathing hot air and have no ram effect. Something no 81 can afford to lose!

I agree with RC81; you may be inadvertently going the wrong way. Here's the 68-71 stock open element set up.

All the aftermarket providers carry these.

I supposed Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but this looks lovely to me.

Thanks for the replies, Performance is not really a issue with me, I only drive the car about 500 miles a year. The pics are very helpful, I forgot what the orig looked like since the car has been apart so long, not bad..If I go with an open element what size drop base would I need?

Stock 68-71 would be my choice if I was actually going to make the swap. In this particular instance, I would polish up the chrome top and use the stock 81 set up.

I'm running an 81 chrome top on my 80 L-82. Looks good.

:)
