This am while driving to work when I pressed on the brake pedal, I heard a air noise from inside and the brakes were acting like they do when the engine is off. Since I drive to work before the sun comes up, I thought I would ask the experts before debugging it myself.

Sounds like a brake booster...check and make sure the hose didn't come off...if not the booster may be headed south.

What you got there is a busted brake booster, the dreaded bbb. I got mine from Pep Boys since it has a lifetime guarantee. You will need someone with small hands to connect it up under the pedals. It is a b--ch.
Good Luck

I now have a second career, since I can now bend my body in ways I never could before after working under the dash trying to put the nuts back on the booster. and I still don't know how I got these cuts and bruises.

Maybe...

...there is a career for you in the Circus as a contortionist? ;)

Was it really that bad? How long did it take and what was the most difficult part.

Re: Maybe...

Its really not that bad...what you need is a long extension (18") a swivel, a socket and something to keep the nut from falling out of the socket. I used a touch of grease. I am 6’4” and it took me about 30 minutes to replace mine with no one holding the booster in. Now, getting the ECM or the antitheft module out is a whole other story.

Most difficult part was trying to line up the nut on the end of the 18" extension I used, avoiding the obstacles under the dash, also having one of the bracket holes surronding the steering column slipping down and blocking the hole for 1 of the bolts to go through, I had my 8.5 months pregant daughter come out and push on the booster while i messed with the bracket inside. and just getting back out after finished. all in all about 1 hour, but spread out over about 2 hours.

oh yeah, I almost forgot the shameless plug for my company...
