AIR system question??

On my '81 I have the AIR system and at the moment I do not have the AIR pump installed. I started the car and noticed that I have exhaust pulses coming out the smog tubes of each exhaust manifold. It was my understanding that the check valve there was to keep exhaust from coming out and going into the "gulp" valve. Is this normal or has both check valves on my exhaust manifolds gone bad??

I couldn't say about the check valves, but 1/4" pipe plugs will cure the problem.

Sounds like the valves are toast.If your going to make the system functional again get high quality replacements the cheap ones are junk!
