All Corvettes are Beautiful, But the Z06 is the quickest

theblackvette,

Thanks for mentioning my car, but let's be clear on a few things here.

1. My car is worth less, to the average buyer, than most well-restored '67 big blocks.

2. Why is it worth less? Because it is definitely not a numbers-matching car.....not to mention all the other major modifications I've done that, while making me feel like a million bucks, actually lower the resale value.

3. Why did I make these changes? To satisfy me, not a possible future purchaser.

4. Don't I care about resale value? No! After owning this car for 37 years now, I have no intention of ever selling.

5. What was it originally? A L-71 427.....definitely not a L-88. Although the L-71 (435hp) had a higher factory horsepower rating, the truth is that in comparable tune and if both are running headers, the L-88 (430hp) is far stronger (really about 60 more than the L-71 -- both with headers).

6. Is my car Bloomington Gold Certified? Nope. Never will be either....not because I don't value the award, but because the car is way too far from stock to ever qualify for that award or for N.C.R.S. Flight awards.

7. Am I laying awake at night worrying about the numbers? ;LOL ;LOL ;LOL

The photo below is about 28-30 years old. Current photos are on the website.
The only person that car has to please is its owner. I used to want my cars to stay as close to stock as humanly possible thinking that it would make them more valuable to the next owner. Then, at some point, I realized I cared more about my cars than the next owner and started pleasing myself with what it had on it or in it. Also, and especially regarding your car, I've taken recent note that in several mainstream auctions, including Barrett-Jackson, the classic American iron, modified to today's technology, is bringing in bigger dollars than ever before and in some instances, more than their totally stock counterparts. There seems to be a trend emerging, too, where cars, outfitted with period-correct modifications are scoring top honors among the big-bucks buyers.

Z_OH_6....you are a man of remarkable logic. I agree with you. My car only has one light mod (exhaust) and I really don't care if anyone likes it or not....I know some of the neighbors don't :L .

To me, a performance car is for fun. If I worry about making sure it will be acceptable to someone else, then why bother to spend the money to buy it in the first place?

I like the way my ZO6 performs as is but if/when I need major engine work done then that's when the cam, intake, stroking, headers, etc. gets done. Until then, I'm happy as is. I have yet to be outrun in it but don't street race anyway.

It's obvious 67HEAVEN enjoys his car and that's a cool thing! :cool

I read the same thing about modded cars now being acceptable, and bidded on at the Barrett Jackson auction. I also agree that the owner is the only one that is to be pleased. I haven't kept any of the Corvettes I've owned stock, or worried about the miles I put on them, which is another topic. There maybe a gray area there about modding a car that you plan to trade, and not keep, but I've always intended to drive the car as much as possible, some weather permitting. I guess it boils down to keeping myself satisfied with Corvette ownership, and not worry about what anybody thinks about my cars value.

No wonder I like and enjoy this place so much. Todd, you and Roadfrog are men after my own heart. Good common sense logic is not wasted when approaching the subject of our Corvettes. May I buy the next round? :beer :w

Z_OH_6,

I would be honored to drink the next round with you provided I can buy the one after that! (designated driver is available....name...Ms. Brenda Faye, LOL!). I believe we will make it happen! On the contrary, I cared!

I wanted the fastest, bazz azz, vette I could find that was brand new. Color didn't matter but I ended up with Electron Blue.

You were smart to get the Electron Blue, that IS the fastest color, and they were only made for about 1 1/2 model years. 2002 - mid/late 2003.

That oughta keep the bucket stirred ... ;LOL

vettepilot, I think you may be right. I believe the extra cost ($750) for the Millennium Yellow resulted in too much paint being applied and it slows me down a lot! In fact I estimate that the car is 2 tenths slower in the quarter than the EB!! :L

From the looks of your car, I think you gained back 2 tenths with the chromies and gleaming clean paint....:L
I looked at the photos on your homepage, beautiful car! I'll bet that's a hoot to drive on the Parkway twisties. We feel like Tenn was our second home, we lived in Clarksville for 13 years while I was stationed at Ft Campbell. We still own one house up there, turned it into a rental back in 1992 when we purchased our second home out in the county. Had to sell the second one when we moved down here, it was way too nice to turn into a rental.

Thank you vettepilot! Glad you looked through the homepage as well. We do love to drive the twisties in our neck of the woods. My wife was born in YOURstate and we enjoy driving back there too. In fact we just drove back from Gulf Shores and Orange Beach a couple weeks ago. A whole other kind of beauty!! :w

The first Vette I saw that led me to Vette ownership today was a yellow 70' Stingray, when I was eight years old, so yellow has a special meaning for me. I think the millenium yellow is an awesome color that definitely gets my attention when I see one go by. Would I be just as happy with a milenium yellow ZO6? You bet!! :cool I'll get the next round! :beer
