Hi guys,

Right, the cars been sat for a while, desided to take it out today for a drive in the rare british sun.

Started fine and ran fine for the first few miles. Then under accelaration there would be this rattling sound which got more fierce the harder i put my foot down.

Stopped to see the missus in town then desided to give it a rant up the bypass. The rattling got worse and when i kicked down the car went into overdrive and accelerated fine without rattle until it came out of overdrive. At the top of the bypass it stalled and would not start. The battery is new and fully charged but it was having a ear problem turning the starter motor. 5 mins of standing in the road it started and got me home.........almost, it did it again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, 5 mins later it starts and i pull on to my drive where it stalled just as i applied the brakes.

Engine seemed very hot. Just so you know my cluster isnt working at the moment so cant give any readings.

Just wondered if anyone every had the same thing?????

Thanks

British Bob

I'll be interested in any replies as my 92 does the same thing. Runs fine cold and as it warms up the acceleration sounds like its pre-igniting. Once up to speed it runs fine

Check this thread and see if it relates to the issues you guys are having. It may be unrelated but at least it will make for some interesting reading until someone more knowledgeable comes along with better suggestions.

The last post in the thread has several troubleshooting suggestions.

Thanks XLR8

Please keep the replies comin though.

when it is not starting, will it turn over? if so, sounds like a fuel pump relay located behind the left rocker cover. Could also be fuel pump or pulsator damper inline with the pump. Have you checked fuel pressure? hook up a guage and turn key on for 2 seconds pump runs and should be 40-44 lbs. then will decrease to 34-39 and hold steady, if it doesnt you have pump problem or pulsator could be leaking in tank depending on the year. I am having same type of problem, got 30lbs of pressure and car runs great cold, then after 10min or 190 temp and spark knock and I have replaced entire ignition except ECM. I am doing the fuel pump tonight or sat, will inform to see if that fixes it.

if you suspect the fuel pump relay, there is a way to energise the pump through the ALDL link on drivers side, if you need I can give to procedure, tell me your year.

could even be an clogged air filter or faulty MAF. if you suspect faulty maf, start car let run, and tap on MAF housing with screwdriver handle :bash lightly dont smash it , if idle changes or makes car go haywire, could be short in MAF. try these and reply back..

good luck :w
