Alternator & Smog Pump Finish Lousy

My Alternator & Smog Pump Finish on my '78 is old. Eastwood sells spray & brush on. What would be a good fix, to sand it down then spray it with Aluma Blast? My personal preference would be show them nasty parts the way of the wire buff to clean em up and then shoot em with clear coat.
