Another headlight question

I have searched the threads, and looked at the vacuum questions, but have not seen this particular problem mentioned.

I noticed last weekend that when I went to full throttle at speed without downshifting (about 60 mph) my driver side headlight popped up. Later the same weekend (it sure was nice out :cool), when I shut her off, the headlight pooped up again. I found if i restarted it and shut it back down the headlight went down & stayed, but was up just a fraction of an inch.

I guess I need to buy a vacuum gauge and start looking for leaks? I also know my carb needs some minor adjustment. Are these two things related? Anyone else had this problem? Any shortcuts?

The hoses all look to be in good shape but I'm unsure of their age. Is it easier to just replace all the hoses or does anyone thnk this may be an acuator problem.

Thanks in advance for all the help I know I'll get.

Disconnecting the main vacuum line from the manifold and measuring there should yield about 18 - 20 inHg. Anything over a 3 inHg loss at any point in the system may signify a leak.

Here's some some data I have:

The actuator relay valve has a spring loaded diaphragm which exerts force on the diaphragm, pushing the valve up if vacuum is not reaching the valve from the manual override switch.
If the diaphragn has a hole in it or the body of the valve is leaking around the control chamber, the headlight door controlled by that valve may stay in the up position, regardless of switch position.

Get the vacuum guage and start checking all the lines and components individually.

PM me and I can help you with schematic details...
