Any Intake and Carb recommendation to clear 76 stock hood

I had a motor built 1 year ago, 383 stroker 500hp+, 10.5:1 compression, I have dual edelbroks on there with 1.5 inch spacer plates. Well, the motor kept going through oil, and finally found out the piston rings never seated. When they took the heads off, it was like the day they honed the engine, and you can tell certain pistons got more gas, while others were leaner. The problem went on over a year because i have only 2000miles on this engine since it was in storage for me being at school, and winter. He is standing by it, and ripping the engine to redo the piston rings. He wants me to go with another intake and carb. I have 2 edelbrok 1405s on there now. He said the big problem is clearance on our hoods. Any recommendations? I've even considered holley throttlebody and intake. Anyone upgrade to this and like it?

Stinger hood, coming soon.
with a stinger hood you will have no problem, I personally would go with a Holley Stealth Ram

info here
but I am partial to Holley Products

Unfortunately I need to update my profile. I am taking my last 3 classes durning summer school to graduate, so it will be a while before I get a stinger hood =( The builder told me that a late model camaro or vette won't bolt to it, or there is clearance issues. I'm not 100% sure if i believe this since i am reading about guys out on this forum putting in TBI off a late model camaro...

That's a good choice. It won't fit with the stock hood though, so if you're impatient about getting the engine modded before the hood install, then the product pictured will not fit.

You could always wait a few months and see what's available then.

the easiest install is a speed density system I did this install spring of 2000 and have over 30,000 miles on it I used a Holley Commander 950 ECU and pieced the TPI off Ebay

At 500+ HP I think it will be hard for you to get any reasonable single plenum carb intake to fit under the stock hood. There is a good possibility I will be experimenting with this but not for several months.

I am curious what it took to put the 700R4 into the Vette, and what are your 1/4 mile times.

I've seen some of the f-body guys mill off some of the material from the stealth ram to make it fit also.

I honestly have not run at the track since doing the motor swap due to oil consumption which now is known as the rings not seating. Should be getting the car back in 2 weeks. I am on a time schedule, so anyone who can answer this next question quickly, would be greatly appreciated. Will an intake manifold off of a 1997 Firebird LT1 clear a stock 1976 hood?

There is a BIG improvement with a 700R4 in regards to off the line though. I know I have a big traction problem now, since i have that, and a 4.11 gear. haha

an Lt1 will fit under the hood, but you can not use it on a earlier small block without extensive mods; the later LT1 is a reverse cool engine.

Hmm.. http://www.lt1intake.com/update.htm drilled 2 inlets into the manifold to run lines to it to cool the engine. I can get a hole setup, minus the drilled inlets from someone for about $200 tops, including computer. I think maybe i should jump on it.

The LT1 is sequential while the L98 is batch fire which computer are you getting?

I was going to get the computer that came with it, out of the 97 firebird and have the chip reprogrammed for my cam.
