I have a 327/350hp newly rebuilt car.........It runs fine on 93 octane from the pump.......there are a couple of places around town that sell 100 octane and a few guys with midyears use a mixture of the 100 plus 93 octane and say that it makes a HUGE difference!

I was thinking of adding about 1/4 of 100 octane per tank......

Opinions??

i'm not but if I found a place selling 100 octane gas I'd love to give it a try with my 327/365.

hmmmm, maybe the local airport would sell me some?

if the timing is already set to run fine on 93 octane, would the higher level really make a difference?

hhhhhhmmmmmm......dunno :confused

The thing is .......you can pump it into a container......but not into your car.....

Like Barry says, if it doesn't ping on 93 octane and your timing map is where you want it to be, why waste the $$$? BUT - if your timing is retarded due to pinging, the high octane fuel will allow you to run a more agressive map and you WILL notice a difference.

well, with all the problemsI had trying to get my timing set to some degree that allows me to drive the car without too many problems and since i'm not getting pinging, I'm sure not going thru the hassle of trying to readjust everything all over again just to run higher octane that is more $$$ and much more inconvienent to go buy.

They sell the 100 Octane stuff over here as well...but since I've got no probs with pinging why waste money ? In fact I tried the stuff with no effect....

...my idle timing sits @ 10deg BTDC with vac disconnected.

Also use simple oil.

Most of the stuff you can buy is better than in the old days anyway....

currently running straight CAM II in the Z06 after restoration - will eventually shift to a 5/15 mix and should run fine

110??!!
wow, are you trying to fuel your car or a small fghter jet?
LOL

if the valves have been changed to handle unleaded fuel what happens if you run leaded again?

Nothing will happen to the valves. To take advantage of the higher octane gas you need to change the ignition and fuel settings for more advance and to run the proper mixture to increase HP. Putting race fuel in your car without making the correct changes is just wasting $. Once you make the changes you can realize sizable increases in HP depending on the type of changes made (ie. cams, compression ratio ignition curve etc.).

That is what I thought.......

what is CAM II?
110 octane - pure old fashioned racing fuel - oh, I love that smell when the fuellie kicks over! (VBG)

I buy 119 octane fuel in 55 gallon drums and pump it my self. I mix 2 to 1 with pump gas for my L88

How much are you paying for a 55 gal drum of 119 oct leaded fuel and where are you getting it from. Thanks.

Best regards,
Gerry
