Did anyone make it to the Chevy VetteFest in Chicago this past weekend? (Mar 12-13). If so, what did you think?

I thought it was fairly well received. My main disappointment was that not a single LT4 was present!! There were a few LT1 1996 models, but no LT4's. It can't be that rare of a car.

However, I enjoyed quite a few cars including:

1. A 1995 LT1 that has been painted admiral blue (like the grand sport), but without the stripes. The car had one of the most beautiful paint jobs on it and looks much better monochromatic.

2. A 1993 LT5 (ZR1) Ruby Red anniversary coupe. Beautiful shape and I can stare at the engine a very long time.

The older Vettes were very nice as well and some of the complete restorations were great to see. One particular black convertible with a red stripe, 427 (with raised hood), and side pipes was one of my favorites.

Overall, a decent show, but for $14.00, I expected more.

There was not much there period. It was a very low turn out (Spring always is a smaller turn out... but this was crazy small... there were only 100 or so cars judged).

There was some cool stuff there though.... we were parked right next to a silver '63 Split Window. It was beautiful. I also heard that there was a '67 BB that sold for 250K just before the show (there were 3 or 4 of these at the show).

My personal favorite was a light blue '66 vert with a hardtop. Man was that a neat car.

BTW... the show is for sale! They will be back in Nov... but after that... everything is up in the air.

Vette Fest is not what it was in the mid to late 90's. The expensive ticket is probably one reason why. :cry

When my car was featured there in the Showcase in Fall 96 and Spring 97, they really worked at inviting a lot more special vettes. People knew going in that they were going to see an incredible collection of incredible cars. :D

That has not happened for awhile.

I like going to an indoor car show when the weather outside is bad.

The new owners are going to have shore up the type and number of vettes that they exhibit.

When they had the show at the old Donnelly Hall, I always saw crowds of people and plenty of cars! :)

That was my 95!!!! Had to be since I was the only admiral blue there. It's the factory color admiral blue..... Thank you for the compliment on the paint.

It does have LT4 Heads, Intake and Hot Cam off a 96' w/ 22k miles on it but I know it's not an original LT4.

BTW I will be adding the GS striping kit and have the hood emblems as well for it.

Yes, Yes, that is it. Please don't add the pinstripes. The car just stops you in your tracks with that paint. the pinstripe will only take the focus away from your beautiful paint. But what am I saying....it is not my car ;)

I know how you feel, I had put it off for a long time. But I have always loved the GS look, and the decals are removeable if I ever decided I dislike them. I was shocked to hear my fiance say my car should have the stripe and at that point I was like oh what the hell I'll get them. Have yet to install.... I will post some pics when I do. Again thanks for the positive feed back.

BTW I have a short clip of my car leaving vette fest on my website www.RickAnthonyMotorsports.com Thats one thing I wish I could have taped all the cars leaving the show but I had to drive mine out. So I couldn't stand around and film it. One of the coolest parts of the show. Hopefully next fall they will do something to improve the show.

I am not sure if I will do the show again, I have been kicking the idea around of being a vendor, but at this point I'm not sure I could break even if I show up. But we'll see.

How much was it to showcase your car?

Thanks

$50 but then add the cost of gas, trailering it, parking, food ect. and you are paying parking probably 3 times for parking atleast for friday, sat, sunday. so I would say probably spent 100$ + for the weekend. To be a vendor is alot more depending on the space you need I think it starts around 200$ - 300$ for the weekend.

Well, this lt4 would have been there....but......I now have a life theatening long term health condition that eliminated my coming...maybe Nov, will have to see what my medical team gets accomplished by then....:w

We did not go this time. I heard from a bunch of people that it was a dissapointing show. Very few cars and low turnout.

I would like to enter my CE in the fall show this year. My buddy has a 95 pace car he would enter with me. It would be fun I think but it is a much bigger hassle than doing a local one day show.

Paul, you have the sister (or brother to be PC) car to my vette! Tell me, is your interior the coolest part of your car? That is a rhetorical question! I believe the Torch Red interior is AWESOME! Only IMHO! ;)

I had my vette at Chevy Vette Fest three times. Twice it was featured in their Showcase. Once I had it judged. (996 out of 1000 points) :upthumbs

If you have never had a car there, you should definitely do it once before you die! It is a hassle and costs money, but the experience is cooler than any one day car show outside. :)

LT4man do you know there are only 68 CE LT4 convertibles with the red interior. Yours and mine make 2 out of the 68 are here in the Chicago area. The interior was the entire point of getting this car. I love the way the red interior just stands out over the silver paint. That is a great combination. I looked at several cars with silver and black interiors. We decided we just had to have the red. We got our CE late last summer. My wife and I flew to Texas to get the car and drove it home. I am in the process of detailing it now. Just started today actually. I didnt do much to it all winter. It was having a new clutch put in it. (ummmm "ladies car") if you know what I mean, It had 19000 on it last summer when we left Texas. I am getting ready to show it next month. The Munster Indiana show is May 7th.

Paul,

I did not know that. Do you mean 68 convertibles or 68 coupes AND convertibles? I have a coupe. I ordered mine from Bowling Green.

I know that the Torch Red interior is very rare. I think I have seen only one other since 1996. There are a lot of blacks and grays. Then you get into how many options are on the car. I have ALL of the options including Spare Tire Delete!

Tell me about this Munster show. I had an aunt who was a nun who taught at St. Thomas More School many years ago. Are you close to the school?

The 68 I am refering to is just for LT4, CE, red interior, convertibles. There are 164 CE LT4 coupes with red interior. Check out this site. http://www.wright.edu/~mathews.5/ it has a lot of information about our cars.

I am in Griffith. Munster is two towns over. The Munster Parks Department started putting on a car show several years ago. It is the first Saturday in May every year. They have it at Community Park just north of Munster Community Hospital on Calumet Ave if you know where that is. The show is the first of the season and usually has a big turnout. A friend of mine has 95 Pace Car, we are both showing this year. If you are not too far come out.

Paul,

Thanks for the information about the website and the car show. :beer

How do I get more info about the show? Can I call someone? Email or write to someone? Sounds like a great time. That is only about an hour from where I live in Chicago. I would like to come out there for the show.

Thanks again!

Wow.That means if there were equal amounts of FE1 LT4's to Z51 LT4's with black interior, there are only 289 cars like mine. And thats not counting the 3:45 rear option on my car vs. the 3:07's.:cool Thanks for the link man!
