Anyone have Mag Wheels? If so what are you going to do about Spare Seals?

Doing and extensive search for the Part Numbers for the Seals, exclusive to the Magnesium Wheel option, has drawn a complete blank :hb.

Enquiries to gmpartsdirect.com have resulted in being advised that these items are not available :cry .

The Magnesium Wheels are shown on the parts list available to me but there is no listing for the Seals :( .

These seals are designed to exclude water and vapour between the mating faces of the wheel and brake rotor. The handbook mentions that if you have this option to ensure that they are in place when refitting a wheel.

Here in Europe we almost expect disinterest by dealerships that have had new Corvette sales taken away from them, so we are looking to you guys in the USA to help us out :pat.

Please does anyone have the Part Number information or can you point to someone/somewhere that does?

We will be very grateful for any assistance you can give :BOW.

Very best regards,

Stan

service manual makes no mention of these seals. The only thing even close, is that you must use a special lubricant for mounting tires on the rims. GM 12345884 is a non-silicon, no corosive lube. It absolutely does not mention any seal for the back of the wheel.

HI there,
As long as the magnesium coating is NOT damaged, you do NOT need the seals, in any way.
No GM parts catalog lists the seals that you have.

Many thanks for the feedback guys, it is certainly odd that the handbook has a section devoted to this subject and seals were actually fitted.

If the rumoured reappearance of the Mag Wheels is true it will be interesting to see if they have these seals.

Very best regards,

Stan

It is strange that the handbok says the seals are importend. The rim without seal is full of a withe powder. The other rims have no powder on them. Also there is no coating on the surface of the rim that is against the brakedisk.
Wath bothers me is the wite powder. Can one trust the rim or can it go apart in high speed.
Hopfully somone has a seal lying araund in the garage. I´d feel better with a seal.
Thanx for your help.
Max

The seal problem is now solved.
I had the same tread on the German vetteforum. A frendly German vetteowner had the ring in his garage. It came with the post today and is now secured on my car. Even iff the ring was not nessesery it feels beter to have it.
And Stan...if you ever come to Sweden...give me a call and a visit...that goes for all of you vettedrivers.

Great news

Hi Max

That is really great news, I can apprciate the feeling of knowing everything is back to original specification.

I really would like to get the Part Numbers for these seals to put on record here. They exist so there MUST be an appropriate parts entry.

Safe driving and very best regards,

Stan
