I have finally listed the 65 for sale on EBay. I have tried to be very honest with the listing and have requested emails before bidding. I would like the bidder to ask questions and have a complete knowledge of the car. I am amazed on how many people will bid what is high dollars to me with out researching the car.

why did you decide to sell the '65? Or had you always planned on selling it after it was done?

I agree with you though on how many people bid and purchase without looking at the car or at least maybe sending someone unbiased in their place to look at it.
When I was looking for a car last year I needed to find one within a few hours driving time from me simply because I was too concerned and too wary of purchasing anything I couldn't see in person beforehand.

Ray chances are the dealers are on it now. They dont need to know nothing except its shinney and they can re-sell it again at a profit. They set there proxy bid to what they are willing to purchase the car for and cross there fingers they get it.

Take alook at some completed auction it seems to be the same guys always drop out about 10 to 15 thousand below what the car sells for.

Best of luck with your sale,Somebody will be getting a great car real soon.

Hi! Barry

I restored the 65 for my wife to drive, small engine with power steering. After she drove it a few times she said that should would rather have an automatic (I shiver every time I think auto in an early vett but, I guess that is all you could get in 53.) I am in search of a C-1 with an auto for her. It will be nice to be at Carlisle with money in my pocket and maybe I will be get lucky and find one there. I like driving the 61 and will never sell it, and the 63 is in the restoration process at this time.

Thanks for asking!

Ray

I understand perfectly Ray. My wife can't drive a manual trans so any future "fun" car we get for her would also have to be an auto.
She really likes the C4's so I'm planning on finding a nice '95 or '96 w/ auto for her when the budget allows although she is still a Mustang girl at heart and would prefer an original '65 or similar 'Stang. At least the good news is that if i did have to get a Mustang for her their resale prices are a hell of a lot less than a Vette so it may be do-able for her in a few more years.
As much as i've gotten her into Vettes, she is still a Mustang lady at heart and since she allowed me to get MY dream car, she should be allowed the same.

Contrary to popular belief, women are capable of driving manuals. If my 70 year old mom can do it, I would guess your wives could learn. Most people prefer (or don't mind) them once they get the hang of it.

I hate to admit it, but I stalled my vette twice on the initial test drive and I've been driving manual transmissions for at least 25 years.

My wife, on the other hand, drove the wheels off of it and never stalled it once.

i've offered many a time to teach my wife how to drive a manual and she is willing to learn, BUT, she refuses to learn on our Vette. She is too afraid of damaging something while she is learning. Her friend offered to teach her on her VW but it hasn't happened yet.
(secretly, in the deepest part of my heart I, think I'd rather she didn't learn. While I an encouraging her to learn to drive a manual tranny, I'm afraid once she does I won't get use of the Vette anymore. She already loves going for rides in the car but once she can drive it herself I'm afraid she will love it that much more and always want to drive and I'll never get the car back! ;LOL)

Hey Guys, don't get me wrong, my wife can drive standard. I taught her to drive standard on a 1962 Corvette prior to marriage in 1969. She just stated that at this point in her life she would prefer an automatic. At this point in my life I want Horse Power and a 4-speed. If a fulie happens to come along before the automatic she will be riding.

My wife actually went so far as to factory order her 95 Ford Explorer with a stick, which was fine by me, whatever she thinks is fun - until I had to try and sell the thing a few years later, not too many folks interested in 5 speed manual Ford Explorer, certainly ruled out all women and most men, who, like Ray's wife, could surely drive a stick but at this point in their lives and in that car, would prefer not to have to deal.

Not that much of a surprise, mid year prices are skyrocketing again.

Ray,

If your car would have been on eBay this time last year, I'd have a green Corvette in my avatar today. You did a great job restoring it and some lucky bugger out there is going to buy himself a beautiful car.

I am currently in the process of teaching my fiancee how to drive a standard transmission. She is learning in a 91 Ford (I know I know I said Ford) Ranger. It is my beater truck and what better way for her to learn then in a truck I don't really worry about. My problem is that she is still afraid to drive it. She will only do circles in the parking lot and never go past second gear. Do you guys have any secrets as how to get a girl to feel comfortable driving a standard 5-speed?

Also Ray... would you mind posting a link to your Ebay auction? Just want to take a "look".

Better brace yourself. Many of the folks who bid high and early on expensive cars are bored 14 year-olds on Mom's computer. Most of the rest are dreamers who need their wife's approval to take a leak.

I believe I was lucky on the initial bids. One of the bidders emailed me and then called for information. He then took the bid to reserve. It will be interesting to see how this transaction plays out. I am usually buying parts not selling cars.

Ray - if I had the garage space I'd be a buyer too - ps my 65 VIN 194675S114316 puts our cars a few days apart on the line

Thanks for the compliment!

I enjoy working in the shop with the golden oldies on the radio. Tonight it will be the golden oldies, 61 Corvette at my favorite cruise night.

i'm jealous!
I can't wait until I get mine back so I can go out to the cruise nights again too!

On my iPod I have a special playlist just for the Vette - it only has music in there that is from the time era of my car - mostly '60's music but also with some early 70's stuff than is stuff fun to listen to at stoplights (i can't hear anything over the sidepipes as I'm actually driving). It makes a great combination with the classic car and the classic tunes! :)
