Here is where I am with the removal process. I have the FSM and I have searched and read the other posts.

The insert and snap ring are off but for some reason the knob will not come off the shaft. I wrapped the knob in several layers of clotch and tried to break it loose with my large channel locks nothing moved.

What next a blow torch. :boogie:flaming

I removed mine recently and it was tight coming off. (I have an automatic) what is yours automatic or standard? I think it was a little corroded. If you have the snap ring off it WILL come off, there's nothing left to hold it on. What I would do is place an adjustable wrench under the knob, tighten it so it fits loosely around the shaft and try to bang on the wrench with a hammer. Gently tap the wrench and it should come off. Like I said, it might be a little corroded on there.

Good luck.

Thanks Paul that was what it took. For others I first rapped the shaft in electrical tape to protect the finish held a cloth around the shaft and used a little WD40 a couple of taps on the wrench and it flew right off.:L
