Auto Trans selector shaft seal replacment

Has any body changed the selector shaft seal on a powerglide in a 66. I've got the tool to do it but it looks like too tight clearance to do without lowering the trans out of the tunnel. Thanks, Jim

Don't know if this will help but I did it on my C1, removed the trans to crossmember bolts and was able to move the trans tailshaft enough to get the tool in place. With your sidemounted engine it may be tougher to move but I'd give it a try.. Also, as extra insurance I was able to fit two seals in place, can't hurt.
