My mechanic is driving me nuts. Had him install new water pump, distributor with new cap and rotor. When starting car with a fully charged battery, it turns over just perfectly, then intermittent backfires, but doesn't start. Checked the timing chain....its lined up perfectly as well with the dot on the balancer. Pulled the valve cover no bent push rods. Unless his gauge is bad the cylinder pressures are between 30 and 60 psi on right side (easiest to get to). Seems as if the exhaust valve(s) are open when they should be closed. Engine was running before repairs. Bad gauge or bad camshaft? HELP!
Any input appreciated.
