My mechanic is driving me nuts. Had him install new water pump, distributor with new cap and rotor. When starting car with a fully charged battery, it turns over just perfectly, then intermittent backfires, but doesn't start. Checked the timing chain....its lined up perfectly as well with the dot on the balancer. Pulled the valve cover no bent push rods. Unless his gauge is bad the cylinder pressures are between 30 and 60 psi on right side (easiest to get to). Seems as if the exhaust valve(s) are open when they should be closed. Engine was running before repairs. Bad gauge or bad camshaft? HELP!

Any input appreciated.

sounds like ....

the wires to the distributor are crossed or of one place...slow down dude and look at the wires and where each one belongs.

It would make sense to me to check the work that he had just done. Investigating the distributor could be a good starting place.

Keep us posted

This sorta sounds more like someone got water in the OptiSpark.

QDM Fault

Quad Driver Fault....the computer chip module has somehow been burned up!

FYI

Thanks for your help...!

The distributor shaft, which only fits one way, was force fitted on by the mechanic...one tooth off, it has a dot where the tooth is blocked it identify the location. So now the timing is off, it contributed to the damage of the ECM. The idiot thinks its the timing chain which he pulled and ruins the oil pan gasket. My law suit to reclaim parts and labor is up to 3k. I hate this guy.
