I have had a battery drain for some time and have installed a cutoff switch to control it. It would be nice not to fix the problem so it's not a issue anymore. I connected a volt meter between the neg. post and cable then pulled all the fuses one at a time while watching the meter - no decrease in the amount of drain. I then disconected the six wire plug in the engine compartment above the starter in the evaporator case area. This in an attempt to determine if the drain was or is under the hood. No change. The amp draw is still at 2.7amps! Where do I go from here? How do you determine where to look if the problem isn't in a fused circut or under the hood in the starter or alternator? Oh, I also pulled the plugs on the relays in the pass. side rear hatch (where the jack is) with no change. Any advise would be GREATLY apperciated.

Thanks, Steve

This is a long shot....

This is a real long shot but check all your interior lights. Your glove compartment light could maybe not be turning off. Also if you have a number of your dash lights burned out you might not notice if your interior lights are on. Like I said a longshot. I'll leave the wiring questions to our more experienced friends here.

Just a thought, The alarm system always has power to it as well as the power door locks and the under hood light. I believe some of these are on circuit breakers and not fuses. Let me know if you find it, I have a small voltage down myself that I haven't found yet.

In my case it turned-out to be the vanity mirror lights staying on. A week door spring or sticky mirror switch could cause this.

82CE w/ similar problem. Tried just about everything. My question is what is the normal drain; have heard .075amp. Is that true? Knowing the normal at least gives me a goal. Appreciate all input. Thanks.

I have the same problem with my '81. I was told to check the ground that comes from the battery to where it connects under the car. The connection could be loose, or dirty. :ohnoes

Battery drain

I have had my 81 for many years. Never had the problem until about 2 years ago. Tried everything that I could think of. Never found what the problem was, but when I replaced the battery this year it stopped. Battery problem? I don't really know if the problem has been solved, but for right now I am happy.:)

The radio memory draws a small amount when the key is off as well as the ECM memory. I'm not sure how much though.
