Just got a new battery for my 96 ce. Have studied the replacement instuctions and am okay there . Question is, will any of the electronics have to be reprogramed? ie. radio, pke, ecm, climate control. Help!!!!

My 88 is of course different than yours and has an aftermarket Sony CD and it was the only thing that was out of whack when I changed the dead battery after 6 months of storage.
My digital dash, computers and all were OK. Guess I should leave this for the late C4 guys...

PKE shud not be affected. Clock & radio will need resetting.

6speeder thanks to a previous post of yours I printed out the instructions from the link you posted. Thanks for all your help Brewshill

battery

Okay so I got the battery replaced last night. What a problem, positive cable was so heavily corroded took forever to get off. Threads of bolt corroded and metal disk on cable end corroded. Wire brushed bolt threads with small wire brush got it pretty clean. Did same to disk not quite as good. Can bolt and disk be relaced or do I need to replace whole cable/ Btw new battery is in and working fine , taking charge etc. If cable needs replacement is it something I should try or let mechanic do it. Understanding My mechaincal ability reached its peak in battery relacement.

Battery cable

Pep Boys, Advance Auto, Auto Zone, etc. usually have a section called 'HELP!' where most of the goods are blister packed. They should have at least the bolts (which are a common size).
Cleaning the 'disk' should give good results.
For optimum results, the cable could be replaced and the other end probably attaches to the top of the starter solenoid, a real PITA to work on.
Good luck.

I just cut away enough plastic from around the disk so that you can remove the bolt completely. Then wire the disk and bolt with a wheel chucked in an electric drill. You can lightly brush the battery terminal also - there will be a small amount of oxidation even on a new battery. Coat cable end/bolt with petroleum jelly after reassembly to slow down future corrosion. My volts gauge was much more steady after this procedure.
