Hi
I am a new member. I've had an 86 vette for just short of a year and just recently had an opportunity to trade it in for a 2003 vette. What a big difference. I would like to know what is the best cold air induction to put on it. Is it worth it? Will I notice any extra horsepower or should I do something else to it. Everything is stock. Thanks for your response. I don't have a new picture as yet, but I will soon.

Welcome to the forum Chef T! :w

I don't know if it's the best or not, but my Corvette mechanic here in town recommends this one:

VARARAM VR-B2 Ram Air System

He hasn't steered me wrong yet. When the time is right, I'm going to put it on (or have him do it actually :D).

Chef T... Welcome to the Corvette Action Center!

I'm going to break the last 3 posts (including this one) away into a new thread so that your question will get the greatest attention possible. :thumb

Welcome Chef! You'll get a lot of different opinions on this question but I've had several intakes over the years and I like the Donaldson Blackwing the best!

i put the vaaram on my 01. love it. took me 1.5 hours and 180$ on craigslist. i gained 21 hp on a dyno.:thumb

Hey Chef,

Welcome to the madness there bud. Please consider supporting this outstanding resource.

I don't have a Varaam. I bought one and didn't like it and switched to the Halltech.

The service is outstanding, the support is incredible, the product is superb.

Not that I'm partial or anything.

Vote #2 for the Blackwing! I love mine!

And by the way, welcome aboard:w.

I installed the Vararam on my 02 Coupe this spring and love it. It feels that I've gained more hp and gained about 2 mpg on the highway on my trip to and from the NCM cruise fest for the rest of us. BTW, wlcome to the CAC and also on your 03 vette.

A twenty one horsepower gain? Makes you wonder why GM Engineering didn't make the Vararam an OEM system.

Was that 21hp at the rear wheels? And do you have a mdified exhaust or stock.

Thanks

Not knocking on you but to ask a "which is the best question" in one of these forums is like asking a group of grandmas which one has the cutest grandkids........:L

Welcome.

I'm not going to help much, but, I just installed a Callaway Honker. Also installed Corsa Xtreme exhaust. So, I am breathing better and it is obvious at freeway speeds. Haven't dyno'd these changes (too late now because I don't have a starting point) but the performance is noticeable.

I picked the Honker because of reviews that I have seen and the basic concept of pulling fresh air from outside the engine compartment. The air flow from the filter into the throttle body is also very smooth. Also, it isn't clear to me how well you would be able to clean the oval or cone-type filters used on some of the other systems, so the flat filter offered by Callaway seemed best from a maintenance standpoint.

I think that ANY aftermarket system will be better than the stock system, so unless you have access to a research facility with a chassis dyno (the only precise way to measure performance gains with all conditions controlled and recorded) and test all the systems, it's a toss up.

Have fun.

Actually the manufacturer recommends that you "don't" use compressed air to clean the filter as it will damage the filter material.
