The former owner said to use only Mobil 1.
Do you agree?,and what weight?
Also what is the best filter?
Thanks.

A '92? That would be the LT1, believe that your owners manual will say Mobil 1, 5w30 or 10w30. For a filter, I use the A/C filter.

Stay with the Mobil 1. That was the factory fill in 5w-30. Your owner's manual covers things like weights and ranges in air temperatures for using different weights. 10-30 works if the temps in your area don't get too cold. The manual does not recommend any other grade. The manual also says to use a synthetic oil meeting GM4718M specifications. If the oil meets that spec, it will show the spec number on the container. Not all synthetic oils meet that spec so Mobil-1 should be the preferred choice. You can find it pretty much anywhere. Costco has it for $23.99 for 6 qts and Wal-Mart has a 5-quart jug for around $22. Every so often Wally World will have it on sale, so stock up when you find a good deal.

As far as filters, AC-Delco is good, as are the Mobil-1 or K&N filters. Purolator, NAPA and Wix make good filters. Avoid Fram at all costs. On the ZR-1 Net ( www.zr1.net ) there are 2 links to oil filter studies. On the main page, scroll down about 2/3 of the way and look on the right side for "Oil Filter Study #1" and #2. Some good reading there.

Although Mobil-1 is on the pricey side at $4 to $.50 a quart, I change the oil in my 92 about every 3000-4000 miles. I ususally quit driving the car by mid November and when I bring it out again in the Spring, it will get another change.

The 92 LT1 does indeed require synthetic oil. Mobil 1 is the factory fill and the only oil I use in my 92 - 10w30 for me since it never gets cold enough to need 5w30.

As for filters, I've used nothing but AC Delco PF-52 or UPF-52.

BTW, I just had the motor apart to add some horsepower and found the bearing surfaces and cylinder walls to be in near perfect shape after 12 years and 103,000 miles. Also, I change the filter every 3000-3500 miles and the oil every third filter.

Can't complain about Mobil 1 or AC Delco filters.

I think the majority of us in the CAC use Mobil 1 as oil. I use Mobil 1 synthetic; which can be bought in 5 quart containers for about $22 at Wal Mart.

I've used a K&N oil filter the last two changes. That 1" hex nut on the end really makes things easy. I pay about $10 a filter at my local auto parts store.
