Never hurts to hook em up to a diagnostic machine and pull all the codes that may be stored. Our Chevy dealer hear does it for 30.00. Good luck with your purchase. 84 CF 91 ZR-1
Get a full mechanical inspection done with scanning and scoping done. These are computerized cars so also get a emissions test done. Now you may not require emissions for your area however by doing this you can find out along with scanning things like
Its an Auto so put in drive give it some gas and quicker go to Reverse and repeat a few times to make sure the driveline is OK.
Put it in Drive hold the brake and have a friend look in the engine bay. Give it some gas with the brake still on and check the amount of "tilt" the motor has. (Drivetrain Mounts)
Pull a couple spark plugs check for carbon, oil, and rust.
Have the coolant checked out. (Hopefully no oil) (Head gasket)
General overview of the interior (Big dollars to restore)
Make sure all the electrical works properly
And check the speed of the windows up and down while the car is cool. This will tell you what kind of shape the electrical/motor and the linkages are.
Oh ya get under the car and check for cracks in the fiberglass floor from uneducated lifting. As well check the exhuast.
Just to name a few most of that is covered however make sure it all is.
Don't worry about things like brake pad and rotors. Its a expense however its also wear and tear therefore not hurting the actual car value. (Just no brake leaks thats all)
Thanks for all of the help.
It's in TX and I'm in WI so I'll have to drive down. From the pics it looks good but then they have all been of the body and interior and none of the engine comp.

I know how you feel. I just bought a 90 conv. 4 months ago. 43K miles. I realized going in that I was going to have to spend some $ to bring it up to my standards. It had been "maintained" but not really kept up, if you get the difference. Now I have new paint, White (same color), new exhaust, and new tires and wheels. I still need a new top, new leather seats and new carpet to bring it up to my standards but it was worth it. I bought it for fun not for a family car. A man needs to have his priorities straight.
Hope it works out for you. It sure did for me. I would post a picture but I think the ones I took are toooooo big. Anyone know about resizing digital photos???????????Mahalo
Well the blue 90 fell through but I did find another 90 polo green with black interior, has 59K but looks real good from the pics, engine comp looks good the valve covers haven't turn color yet. It's alittle closer than TX it's in OH so maybe some time next week i'll drive down and check it out.
I don't know why a 90 and not 91 I guess I just like the way it looks.
