I just bought a 93 Coupe, 40th Anniversary edition, and wanted to play my home made CDs in the player. Unfortunately they don't work and I think its because the player is too old to play audio CDs. They work fine in my Pontiac (97) but no such luck in my Ruby Red. Being the smart guy I am I figured that the tape player would be the next best thing but the tape jammed. (It wasn't a good night). Now the question, does a '96 CD player fit in the 93 and will it play audio cds?

Some audio CD's burned on PC's will not play in some older CD players. That may be why it works in the Pontiac and not in the Vette.

There is probably no difference between the 93 and 96 C4 player system so the chances are that you may not gain anything by replacing it.

It could also be the software you are using to rip the CD.

It has to do with the way you burn the cd . I use Nero .

Yes the head units are the same as far as fit...but the 94-96 heads have white lettering against a black face plate. Your current 93 deck is a different color face plate (dk. grey??) and I believe it has orange lettering...other than that, they are the same fit.

Don't know about the player audio functions....good luck!

What format is the audio Cd? If it's MP3 it won't play, I think the ones that I burned when I had my 91 and 93 were .wav file format.
Are you getting a message from the CD player such as --no disc-- or any other message?

Upgrade

The quick fix for your Bose Gold system is to remove it and send it to Doctor Don www.doctordons.com The good doctor can upgrade you cd player to play your burned cd's and fix your cassette player as well as realign the radio. The cost to repair or replace the standard CD player with an original one is $130.00 plus shipping. You can contact them for a price on the upgrade. If you have a 40th anniversary Ruby you should retain the original Bose system. My .02

Welcome to the wonderful world of Bose.
You can get the head unit rebuilt here and it will work but it will still be a Bose and sound like crap.
For less than the price of fixing your head unit, and then the left speaker, the right speaker, and the back speakers, they usually go out 1 at a time; you can install a good aftermarket MP3 player.
Keep the bose in a box so you or a future owner can put the car back original should the need arise. It only takes about ½ of an afternoon to change out the head unit and speakers.

Thanks for all of the ideas, I knew I joined this group for a good reason

Just rember

Just a side note about the Bose. When it was introduced into the C4 GM and Bose collaberated on the design and placement of the entire system. Just as the cars design was the best technologie of the time so was the radio. Of course as time goes on we learned to make things better and smaller. Todays cars are quiter and smoother even the C6 has evolved to a level of quiet opulance. Still underneath all that refinement there still is a car that will outperform anything in it's class today but with a different focus for what the public expects in a car.:confused

Bose collaborated with everybody. If it would sell a box with his name on it the good doctor would enter a joint venture with David, Jesus and Mohammad to market speakers for the Armageddon. (Which might actually sound better than their current product.):eyerole

Sorry but Bose was and is nothing more than advertising hype. I think that even Paula and Randy from American Idol would agree with Simon that Bose has no highs – no lows and strains to be average.:ugh

It was crap in 1984 and it is crap today…have a look at all of the complaints from C6 owners.:W

The only excuse to keep the Bose is to keep the car original. That being said; a bose in the box is worth 2 in the dash.:rotfl
