I am bringing a 82 back to life. This car has sat for 10 years. After cleaning gas tank and fuel lines the car started and ran OK, next day no fuel from either injector, voltage is good to both, any ideas? I expect there will be other questions regarding this baby in the future and hope some of you with more experience will be there to help. thanks Ken

Hi Ken,

The injectors will have 12 volts anytime the key is on run. The computer controls the ground side. Check for ground pulse with a test lite or Noid lite. A DVOM can't keep up with the pulses 10/second..

Mike

You probably don't have any fuel pressure. Whether from a bad pump or a clogged filter, or a stuck pressure regulator.

You need to find out which of these things are causing the problem by putting a pressure guage inline before the left hand throttle body. The pressure regulator is in the right hand throttle body, and the filter is on the frame rail below the heater box. You know where the pump is. The pump could go bad overnight and not start up the next time you turn the key. Are you getting the Bzzzzz-click sound from the pump when you turn the ignition on?

Thanks for responding, I replaced the fuel pump and filter when the tank was cleaned, when I pulled the injectors I know there was fuel, I suspected it might be a ground problem due to the sudden failure, I will be back at the shop monday. How would I go about checking the ground pulse ( where ?)
Ken

Check out Twin Turbo's website.

And the system overview with electrical diagrams once you are registered.

The injectors are powered at 12V though the ignition key and grounded at the ECM through the drive transistors on the ECM board. The White and Red wires are +12V and the Blue and Green wires are Ground. They are pulsed by the ECM and will be very short pulses. You will need a test light or an Oscilloscope to see them. With your light grounded at the engine block, probe the Blue or Green wires at the Injector connector and you should have 12V with the key on. As you crank the engine, the voltage should pulse to 0V 2 times / Rev on each of the injectors.

The ECM is located in front of the battery and is bolted to the bulkhead behind the driver's seat. You may want to pull it out and clean the connectors off just to make sure you have good connection at the ECM. It gets pretty cruddy in the battery compartment.

Thank you, Thank you, I will report back Monday evening after I give it a go.

Well today she runs just fine, I think it was a combination of dirty contacts and battery voltage a little low. After new gaskets and a hot charge on the battery the car ran fine. Tuesday is rebuild the brake calipers day. You have to make it go before you worry about stopping. Thanks for your help I still have that 700 transmission to worry about. Ken

If you get the calipers aprt and find corrosion down on the cylinder bores, they will leak eventually even after rebuilding them. It's just a matter of time. Good luck!

Thanks, in 1995 I had stainless steel calipers installed, from sitting so long I think the seals just stuck and when pressure was applied maybe one tore, I hope.

If it's like my '82, as soon as you get one problem taken care of, two more crop up.:L

Well, at least one did, I am replacing seat covers, carpets and weather stripping, taking off the T tops, which have not been removed in ten years, the locking rod was corroded would not slide out from body top, took 45 minutes of slow prying to get it off. one of the small things that I have not thought about.

Make sure when you do the door seals, that you pull the door panels off and lube up the door latches and lock linkages. The doors will be real tight with the new weather stripping on.

have you ever seen brake fluid turn to a crystal like tree sap?

That's a new one. Is it crystallized around the fittings or in the lines? I have seen it combine with road salt to form a yellow crystal.

it is under the seals on the piston, like it grew or something and distorted the seal. just pushed one edge out a little. I had all brake components replaced new, drove the car for about 1000 miles and parked it, that was in 1995, I have never seen anything like it.

Strange stuff! It may have something to do with the Stainless steel. How about converting over to silicone fluid since you are redoing the seals anyway? That is less reactive.

seems to me mine had that as well when I took them apart to see if they were worth rebuilding or replacing..the vette had sat around since '96,was started and moved but never went more than a few feet.

It all cleaned off easy enough, I have returned the calipers to the car and no leaks. Is there a way to check the ecm, the injectors work then do not, fuel pump runs and then not, there will be fire to the plugs and then not, it was removed and all the connections cleaned, same with the fuel pump relay ect.?

Check your tach feedback connector at the distributor. That can cause your fuel injection not to work.As for all the other stuff working intermittently, I would look at your ignition switch to make sure that the 12V power is coming on at the distributor. The key switch would cause all of those things to be off at the same time.
Also check the plug in fuse in the battery compartment to make sure it's not loose. That supplies the power to the ECM and you may have knocked against it while charging the battery the last time.
Also check the Oil pressure switch at the back of the block, that is tied in to the fuel pump.
Check the diagrams on the second link I sent you on the crossfire site. The pump, fuel injectors are tied through the ignition switch and the pump and ECM are tied through the oil pressure switch.

I was reading through the post thinking pickup coil in the distributor when you wrote the problem was fixed...but now it's back. I lost my injectors while driving and after towing it back home, determined (with forum help) that the pickup in the distributor was bad. The injectors will not fire without that signal.
